What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Probably getting my AG card revoked, but it’s been a while since my last proper detail. Just a simple one today. Brakebuster on the wheels and recently purchased tires, 2BM with Reset, Hyperdessing on the trim, and the last of Meg’s Endurance tire shine to use it up (finally!). It desperately needs a polish, but that’s gonna have to wait until the purgatory gates close down here and it cools off.

So you've used it a couple times already?

To be clear im not being a dickk when i say this but Clearly you dont pay attention to anything ive already said to you in previous posts when you've asked about ADS quartz. Yes, i have now used Ads quartz 4 times now. Its not many times compared to folks that do this more often that i do. I have not used nor signed up yet for the pro quartz.

It was mid 80's and humid. I went a little faster this time, pushing myself to apply to a area wait about a minute then apply another area, then when ready to wioeoff going back to the previous area to start the wipe off. I try not to get ahead of myself, although im trying to be faster with my coating applications. I coated the whole truck in two hours. I bet thats slow for most other folks.

Did pretty good on the GM side with Holden, as well. There were a number of vehicles they did down under that I'd like to have seen up here.

I’ve come to realize that even a company like Mitsubishi can build a near bulletproof engine as long as it’s going in a forklift because forklifts seem to run forever compared to a typical car… But there are certain cars built that also have it in them and that’s usually cop cars, and those Fords there used to be cop cars and therefore built to outlast your typical ordinary car.

It’s got a cop motor, cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks…

Both Holden and Ford in Australia were highly skilled at developing large RWD vehicles sold at low cost. For the most part, these vehicles were powered by 6-cylinder engines and sold in volume to company fleets, government fleets, police cars and taxi's. The high-performance models powered by both 6 and 8-cylinder engines targeted the private market, and mostly what people outside of Australia think when it comes to Commodore's and Falcon's.

To me, that is in contrast to the Crown Victoria, which was primarily a police and fleet car, especially in its last decade. The separate chassis made it highly durable in those applications, but it did limit its ability to be used a basis for luxury or performance motoring. This is where Falcon and Commodore come out on top, they were more versatile. Proper unibody construction, more engine /drivetrain options, more body styles (sedan, LWB sedan, wagon, Ute and SUV), superior driving dynamics and steering feel balanced by terrific body control, ride comfort and road noise suppression.

Talking of the Falcon and its 4.0 inline 6, those engines with their iron block would easily do 1-million kilometers (621,371 miles) in taxi applications. It's said that these cars basically fall apart around the engine, and for the most part they are correct.

As for you guys not getting access to Falcon (at all) and Commodore (in higher numbers), there was always a "not invented here syndrome" going on there. Despite several attempts, Ford US didn't want a bar of the Falcon or a Falcon-based model. There was suggestion that the superior suspension layout of the Falcon would have transformed the Mustang with its live axle, but again, Ford didn't want to know about it.

The Holden side, well they kinda got shafted by GM. Holden invested $1 billion into a platform that was going to be used throughout the GM universe. Even Saab were to have a Commodore based model. In the end, they got left with a hefty bill to pay on their own (this was around when GM went bankrupt), save for the token gesture exports as Pontiac and Chevy's. The previous gen Camaro did end up on that platform, but heavily, heavily revised to the point where they may as well designed their own. As for the Chevy SS, Holden were expected to make the Commodore more Chevy looking for it to fit into the Chevy lineup, only for GM to supply limit the SS to make sure it didn't flourish.

In both cases, the internal politics and self-sabotage between the various outposts of Ford and GM is perplexing.

Did an application of Mohs evo on daughter’s bmw. 1st application using this product. Previous coating experience was with CanCoat. Evo was simply to apply even with hot az temps. Love the slickness.

I walked a car show in amazement over how many people have zero clue about cleaning their wheels and tires. The sheet metal is washed, then they quit.

The carshows, American muscle in particular, is a losing battle

Kind of been neglected the last two weeks, so this morning got a full Maintenace wash and detail inside and out. Engine cleaned and dressed. Both air and cabin filters cleaned and reinstalled. Finished with flex wax used as a rinse wax. Tires got Griots ceramic tire shine.

After cleaning up that large scuff on the hood I took another look today and the section I polished was quite noticeable since it’s been over a year since the car had a freshening up

I decided to do some experimenting and give Griots Ceramic AIO another try since I have a few pads now that I didn’t have the last time I tried it

The paint has some very minor swirls that only people like us would notice so I was just looking for a very minor bit of correction

With a red finishing pad it did absolutely nothing that I could see, ditto with an orange one step pad

I even tried it with a Rupes yellow wool pad and I got a tiny bit of defect improvement but not much gloss

I just don’t get this Griots Ceramic AIO, although some of you guys have had good luck with it

I’ll keep it around and maybe find a use for it some day

I finally broke out the NV Finesse and Rupes Yellow Wool and did what I should have done in the first place

When it was all polished I actually decided I would try the Griots once more as a jeweling polish

Nope

I did a 50/50 and with the red finishing pad it actually dulled the finish

I fixed the test area, wiped the hood down, and did a CarCraft style application of Megs HCW

I still really like it and applied to dry paint, wiped in good, and buffed in, it looks and works great

Buy once, cry once. Got tired of the slow drip from hose bib to pressure washer and after 3 years of cordless leaf blower, hauled the air dryer out and mounted on wall.

Well if you plan on washing a car while you’re here, bring a helmet. The number of times I’ve bonked the ‘ol melon on the lift while unspooling the hoses is (literally) mind numbing.

I shoulda had the hose bib & reels put in AFTER the lift…poor planning and I’m too lazy to move them over into the clear space now. Poor planning…oops. “Oh, I’ll put them over in the corner where they’re out of the way”. Dummy.

Been very neglected this year, so today my truck got a proper exterior detail. Its been 2 years since it was coated with pure evo. Last year sometime i topped it with cancoat evo. The roof and hood where dead but the rest was still performing good. Mind you everything sits outside 24/7 and this thing mostly just sits.

First- wheels/tires hit with 3d yellow, wheels also got hit with the last of my supply of adams iron remover. Wheels then washed with ADS decon in the bucket.

Next truck got foamed with labocosmetica primus 2.0, dwell and rinse. Then sprayed down paint with labocosmetica sidero cut 1:4 in IK multi 360. Let dwell for 3-5 minutes and left on the surface while i did a bucket wash with labocosmetica purifica.(gary dean style towel method)

With the decon complete, it was time to make a few light passes on the hood and roof with flex supa beast, white lc force pad and gyeon primer. Once complete, i grabbed my oldest open bottle in the fridge of ADS quartz(from 3-31-2024) and coated the hood and roof. No ill effects noticed from using a 6month old open bottle of quartz.

Rest of the paint got an application of ADS ceramic sealant. Door jams and wheels wiped with ADS adapt. Tires dressed with ADS tire +.

Im waiting until ADS phobic comes out to coat the rest of the truck with it.

I worked with a guy that bonked his head on the same racking 3 times in the one day over about 2 hours. He got really upset when we couldn't stop laughing after the 3rd time. Mind you it was him who used up the stock at the front of the shelf, and wouldn't bring the stuff at the back to the front, he'd rather bang his head reaching to the back. It was so funny, 3 times, bonk, FARK!, then laughter from everyone else.

That and exhaust tips, drags the whole car down.

Wow!!! And I thought this was impressive...................

Yea it was pretty crazy, it turned purple almost instantly too, the entire truck. I used up an entire 24oz. bottle on it.

Paint is still rough and you can still visually see tiny little specs on the paint that look like iron, but a 2nd spraydown didn’t turn purple [only a tiny bit]
Going to clay it next.

I'm guessing this is why traditional clay bars still have their place.
