Bad results using Meguiars cleaner wax on single stage

You guys were right. It did not turn out well. Tiger stripes on the trunk and hood, general mottling, and I didn’t have enough primer. Trunk and hood look the worst, the rest of the car is OK, but it’s not smooth and flat, sun hits it wrong, looks like hell, needs at least clear. Can I sand it just a little and make it look uniform first? I still have some leftover 1200 grit.

Hey, it’s OK, this only cost me like $90 more and one more day than just doing a primer job. Call it a “temporary” paint job, if you will. The paint is readilly avaialble from Summit, so if you like the color, there’s a good base to start with.

Tiger striping, which I never suspected would be a problem, because I’m a noob, was a problem. Lotta layers, kept going, more layers. Missed some spots, next day, more layers on the trunk and hood, still mottling .... I still got like a quart, mixed with activator and reducer, and I suspect, the problem was ....... anyone?

Yep, the cheap $10 gun, the noob, getting sunburned and hafting to take breaks with the mask off, spilling paint, had gloves but made my hands sweat, ended up saying f it ... still got blue in my fingernails. Paint sticks real good, but it’s not smooth and it’s mottled. You guys were right. Single stage metallic for a noobish painter, bad idea. Don’t do it.

Above is your post after your paint job.Seems like the paint was fubar are before the cleaner wax was applied. I'm not here to defame you or embarrass you but I just read your whole thread on the other forum and your results were forecasted before the paint went on

It’s not a great paint job. I never said it was.

I just wanted to polish it up and make it better, and I had no idea results this bad were even possible. Now that I have removed the product it is much better.

It’s too bad, when all I wanted was some advice on how to fix it, everybody has to play this CYA game.

Look there's something wrong with the paint, it's been stated numerous times in this thread that there's no way the Meguiars could have done that. When you say you polished did you use the wax machine in your video or a proper da or rotary? Because the wax machine has zero power to correct anything. If it were me I'd stop blaming Meguiars, stop throwing solvents on fresh paint and take a step back and think about the paint job. If there's something "catastrophic" going on there's no fixing it

...everybody has to play this CYA game.

The Meguiars, absolutely, 100%, DID do that. Nothing “catastrophic” happened, though. Maybe you missed my last post on page 4. I used Turtle Wax Bug and Tar remover, after a couple applications, it is fixed.

I seen the pic, that doesn't looked fixed to me. Surely doesn't look like a 2 week old paint job.

Mkay, well it’s back to how it was, instead of the chalky white results I got from the cleaner wax.

Note that I was pretty sure this was fixable and I didn’t really get angry until the Meguiars rep started putting words in my mouth and claiming I only let the paint dry for 48 hours and making apples to oranges comparisons, and frankly jerking me around.

If nothing else - this was a good learning experience.

I'm always impressed with ANYONE that will tackle the HUGE job of paint their own car. I've done so I know how much freaking work it is.

:)

Sorry Mike!

Hit the thumbs down by accident....

Info agree with you though. That job is a huge undertaking.

Fun thread.

TLDR:

Bro painted his car in a blue metallic base and didn’t top with clear as recommended by the manufacturer. Used meguiars cleaner wax to give it some shine and ended up with a pea souper.

Posted here to blame the product and bash meguiars for suggesting it was an issue with the paint, all without providing the necessary details of the paint system and product application until asked/dug up from OPs similar post on the meguiars forums.

Used a tar/bug remover to reduce the dried wax in the unsealed paint and still hasn’t admitted fault.
