Step before Wheel sealant

Iron x and then I washed and dried them. I have very little DP wheel sealant but plenty of McKee’s hi def sealant. Should I polish them first? I don’t think there’s need to clay them. Also I’ll be using a spray tire dressing. Would you spray them first or seal rims first? the wheels are off the truck. Maybe I can cover the wheels easier laying them on the ground. Thanks

I wouldn't overthink wheels. taking them off and ironx is more than 98% of people do. Heck, I've resorted to just hitting mine with hydro blue. Easy to apply for the tires. I'd always do dressing last.

they're only off because I need to put snows on for the winter. it also gives me the opportunity to rotate them. maybe I'll use up the dp sealant & use the hi-def if I run out of dp. it'll be easy enough to cover rims while spraying the dressing. thanks
 
You'll be fine with your process. I do the baggie test on wheels after Iron X just to see how they feel (same as paint).

Sometimes they could use a quick clay and sometimes they're ok.

I treat wheels, especially painted wheels, the exact same as paint. The flatter, more uniform scratch free surface, the better before a good LSP. I buff and polish to brighten them up. If I'm gonna seal them in I try to get them really really clean, flat and glossy!

I also lay them flat and flip them over to do the barrels. Works for me.

I also use Belo's approach and dress the rubber last, wiping any over app off.
 
thanks Paul, that's just what I did. just for the hell of it I did the baggie test & they were clean as a whistle. it's raining outside now so I had to stop. some of these products can really smell up the basement. at least I got two of them done & looking good.

i figured that, but still. I guess for me, they get so dirty so quickly that i dont overthink it. Pick up some hydro though, you might be happy with it. Just do a good clean, spray it on the rims and quickly rinse. Then apply tire dressing.
 
I believe Hydro Blue would play well synergistically with Hi Def (like the equivalent of doing Hydro Blue on a clean surface)

Wheels will never fail the baggie test.. It seems to be the 1 area of the vehicle that never has bonded contaminants.
