I actually have some of the thin 3 1/2 pads I use on my gg3.
I started polishing about 4 years ago as a weekend warrior.

I have the 2nd gen. And it's ok with the thin pads, works good for the front and rear bumper covers and other small areas.
I usually go with a more aggressive pad and/or polish to get the same cut as my flex.

The flex is a beast and corrects quickly but I wanted something tamer to polish my brother in law's black jack, that's why I ordered a GG 6 black Ford paint can be soft and I'm no pro.

No just matte stripsbitchin ride...that matte black?
Well I ordered the 5" vented bp and 12 pads just to be safei would just purchase the 5" GG vented DA backing plate (and 3" HD backing plate) and buy 5.5" (and 3.5") pads. while the 3.5" backing plate will work with the 5" pads (with the 4 inches of hook & loop), there will be even more of a gap to the outer edge of the pad (pad is also thicker too) which isn't ideal. fyi, those (discontinued) 5" lake country hybrid pads are the same foam as the thinpro pads...
