I have a nice Corvette to do for a friend. Complete detail and Carpro paint coating. I remember reading on here where someone was using P21S soap and steel wool. I don't have the P21S and don't know if I can get it locally and I am starting today. Any other good options that anyone uses? I have lots of billet and chrome polishes.

Do you have Mothers mag & aluminum polish? It will do justice on exhaust tips.

I do have, that's what I'll use. Thanks.

You can make it easier on yourself and cut the time it takes to clean the insides by using the metal polish with the steel wool. Otherwise you might be there for awhile depending on how long it’s been since they’ve been polished.

It’ll take you from this:

To this. In much less time.

Wear some nitrile gloves.

wait, what's this we're cleaning the inside of the tips ? I've never even thought about doing that. I mean I'll wax my door jams & inside the trunk lid but tips. guess I'll have to get on board and give it a shot. thanks I needed the extra work.

Bob...who makes the cone that's on your drill?

Or better yet---where can I get one?

I actually do it a much easier way... I just spray exhaust tips with Brown Royal Wheel Cleaner and let it dwell while I’m cleaning the wheels and come back and give them a quik scrub with my wheel brush and all the crud cleans right off. Any further polishing is just icing on the cake, but once the crud is off it’s easy.

-Exhaust tips[including the insides]
-Wheel barrels
-Wheel wells
-Exterior trim
-Windshield cowl

It’s things like this that stand out if and when I happen to see a car at the gas station or driving on alongside the street that I can immediately tell it’s been professionally detailed... I’ve actually run into vehicles I’ve detailed numerous times and I always notice the detail seconds before I recognize the car! Lol. It’s a good feeling to see a perfect looking vehicle driving along and knowing you’re the 1 who made it look so good.

Duh....

Why didn't I think of that?

I'm always finding new ideas from Eldorado...!

I start with my ez-detail rim brush and use my wheel cleaner for the inside of the exaust tip. Once that has been done, it should be clean but covered in carbon. From there, I use super fine steel wool (0000) with the wheel cleaner and I can usually remove all the carbon in a minute or two of scrubbing. If not, I take my polishing cone on the drill and put some metal polish on it (either Mother's or Flitz) and go to town on the inside. Should take only a minute or two.

Once all of that is done, I use the metal polish to clean out the exterior crome and call it a day. Expect to spent about 10 to 15 minutes per tip.

You mean you use this Brown Royal Wheel Cleaner on all these surfaces Eldo?

Here is the before, I will show the after. Today I detailed the engine bay, the interior, wheels and wheel wells, chemical decon on the paint, wash and clayed the paint. Tomorrow I will polish the paint. I have some scratches on the T tops, I am hoping they polish out. Any ideas welcome as usual. The car is in pretty good shape already. The owner has been having a local detail shop do it for her once a year. Their work is terrible. I'm sure most of what I am doing has never been done before.

I use the Ball Buster polisher from Chemical Guys along with either their Light or Heavy Metal polish and it does a great job on exhaust tips. I use an old wheel brush to scrub the insides of the tips.
