New mid engine Corvette. July 18th.

Bob...did you watch the C8 vert reveal yesterday? Btw my buddy Hectour saw something on social media that the press isn't getting the numbers out of the new C8, have you heard or read anything?

Has the press emargo on the C8 been lifted? I know the media is doing testing, but I was under the impression they still couldn't publish test results and driving impressions.

EDIT: Just looked it up. The embago will be lifted on Oct. 16th.

I saw it in person at the OC auto show last week. It looks good. The color they had there was ugly but the style of car looked good.

Which color?

I was talking to Derek0609 this afternoon and he had an orange one infront of him. He drives past the Tech Center everyday to and from work so you'd expect that, plus he drives home to the high rent district of the metro Detroit area so surely the engineers live out that way as well. I was wrong about the Supra when I saw it inperson but I don't think I'll be changing my mind when I see the C8 inperson, stay "tuned"

It does look pretty good in person. Has presence that the Corvette hasn't had before. Rear end is still odd to me but a bit better looking in person.

Guess production is now delayed/on hold, still have some C7's left to finish out run of that gen, then re-tool, then get C8 going.

For those with an order in, kinda on hold now.

Thanks to CorvetteBlogger reporting the following article by Mitch Talley:

We’ve waited 66 years for a mid-engine Corvette.
Now it looks like we’ll be waiting just a little longer on the 2020 Stingray.
That’s according to reports published Monday in the Detroit Free Press.
The newspaper says it has learned from two sources that the ongoing UAW strike will delay production and launch of the new mid-engine Corvette.

Officially, a spokesman for GM says, “As we’ve previously stated, Chevrolet Corvette Stingray production begins in late 2019 and convertible production follows in late first-quarter 2020. It’s too early to speculate on production timing impacts on any of our vehicles due to the UAW work stoppage.”‘
One source tells the Free Press, however, that “I know for a fact that this strike is directly going to affect the start of regular production for the mid-engine Corvette.”

The Bowling Green assembly plant reportedly still has 600 of the seventh generation Corvettes to produce once the strike is settled and workers return to work. The plant was originally slated to undergo a tooling change for the C8 this week and next week, then begin production of the 2020 mid-engine cars late this year. "That can’t happen because the plant hasn’t finished production of the current generation Corvette,” one source told the Detroit newspaper.

About 46,000 UAW workers went on strike nationwide at GM on Sept. 16. Details of a new contract proposal submitted by General Motors to the UAW on Monday morning are unknown, as the strike entered its fourth week.

The union is seeking a stronger guarantee that GM will build traditional vehicles, as opposed to electric or autonomous cars, in U.S. plants, a person close to the negotiations told the Free Press. GM CEO Mary Barra has touted an all-electric future and more self-driving cars as the best path for the company, which would transform primarily into a technology company that makes cars.

Different type of presence though.

There's some exotic flare to it
compared to the old man persona
of the past...

Not just the coupe, but a Grand Sport or Z06 with those extra flared fenders! I'm not a huge Vette fan, but have to admit the rear 3/4 shot of those C7 upper performance trims looks pretty amazing. ZR1 looks more like the C7.R in my eyes (probably the huge spoiler), so I don't even think of it in the same terms.

I'm just happy they banished chrome from the wheels and trim on the C8. That will go a long way towards helping me like it once I actually see one on the road.

First one without Manufacture plates too.

I drove next to one for a 100+ miles on my way to see Klasse over the summer. Tried to get him to race me but he wouldn’t budge. Car is very quiet on the highway.

This is of course, all IMO...For me, chrome belongs on cars from that era, Bob!. The design of the 50's and 60's cars are well suited for all sorts of shiny grill work, bumpers, and trim pieces. Just not a modern Corvette.

Lol.... I was just thinking of chrome dipping my wheels..... I’m getting old...

Nah, Just wise.
That picture of Bob's Corvette with chrome wheels looks so good.
I just picked up a 2018 Grand Sport Corvette that's Admiral Blue has chrome rims on it and I think it looks great. JMO
I've owned 12-13 Corvettes before this one and this one is the best looking by far.

My buddy in Tenn got to see this today, inperson...THE REAL DEAL! 1 of 5 made in total, 1 of 3 coupes, I'm very jealous
