all the detailing product torture test videos on YT - what say you?

Jimbo was one of first you tubers I watched, Him and Pan. My only problem with jimbo is that he won’t use product as directed.

With pan at first was never met a product he didn’t like but then someone pointed out he just reviews products he likes... guess if you don’t got nothin nice to say.... he’s reviews pretty thorough and will take fans advice about tests.

Back to jimbo. Look at his CG hydroslick/charge video’s. He applies to much and complained how difficult to remove (says apply thin) starts test right after with no cure time (2-3 hours no water 24 hours best). Both failed ASAP.

How does this help anyone? No one chemical tortures their cars and most who use will follow directions. I like his personality and love the idea to find out if expensive stuffs worth it (he was one reason why I returned my maxshine polisher and bought a boss).

Guy seems honest and I hope he does well but a test that doesn’t let the product set up and cure to perform at its best is asking for failure and really doesn’t help anyone......

In contrast watch Autofanatics and Apex details reviews of hydroslick. They allow the product to work its magic like/love this product. Neither are chemical guys fans

Whatever we think of him... he’s popular on YouTube. I love how he applies products then will just start tests. Curing be damned! Plus turtle wax is trying to attain the Walmart and Oreillys crowd. The wanna sell to the masses

LOL he rarely reads directions, it seems like every video at least one person complains how he didn't apply a product right, or give it time to cure. And unlike a lot of YT'ers who just complain to complain, they tend to have valid gripes with his methods. His expensive vs cheap's a great idea, and when he does it right it's helpful. But he kind of just wings it sometimes which can really suck for a company when their product fails badly. But it was due to him doing everything wrong. People who aren't knowledgeable like us will take his findings as legit, improper technique be damned.

When his tests are done right they're pretty good, and his general tips videos are pretty solid. Where as Pan seems like he'll shill out for any company who wants to send his products, maybe he's not, I don't know. But to me his videos come across like he's a sales man. He claims the Last Coat's a great product. I always see their informercial on YT so I'm a bit wary about the product lol. But, maybe it is legit.

Is it just me or do others finding themselves fast forwarding through these torture test vids to just get to the end result? I enjoy Brian's channel but I really don't have time to watch the same solution get sprayed on a panel like 10 times. I fast forward to the end for the "down and dirty" lol

Very few of these YT detailers interest me at all.

A few products here and there? Okay, maybe.

I have lurked here on AGO, read A TON, watched Mike's videos a million times, bought his books, joined the forum, read even MORE, and only then did I start to post.

I have tried just about every type of product (TYPE of product, not every one from every brand).

My point is this: I think I have a pretty good handle on what works, and what does not work as it pertains to MY needs.

Most of these YT guys are merely another annoying commercial in my eyes, and a lot of them use horrible practices. JMO

Some of their practices really raise my eyebrows, that’s for sure!

Nobody wants that freak show on their team.

His next Tweet should be #needagoodshrink......
I'm starting my 5th season of not watching football and I got waaay before the whole kneeling thing too, thank God. Everyone knows this guys backstory, assaults woman doesn't get talked about much but it sure did right after Ray Rice, 1 season of the "No more" commercials, remember those, yeah no kidding, either doesn't ANYONE else

Sorry, I've said enough

Ditto! Both he and Luke Wilson present themselves as being far, far knowledgeable than they truly are. The problem with these " influencers is, they have gained huge followings of people who don't have the experience nor the knowledge to know when they are being given bad info which leads to them taking the spew as wisdom and using it in their world.

The scary and concerning element is the numbers of people who are buying some buckets, mitts, a cheap Chinese polisher, a couple bottles of product and some MF's and starting a detailing business armed only with the education they've gained from these hacks . These sheep tune in to the YouTube channels of their favorite influencer to soak up the latest offerings. This is happening by the thousands and it's going to end up being detrimental to both the consumers who hire these inexperienced, uneducated insta-detailers as well as those of us who have done our due diligence and have established, reputable companies. The damage to the credibility of our industry as a whole is going uk suffer as a result. It's only a matter of time.

Most, if not all of these newly self-appointed car care professionals will damage someone's vehicle due to their lack of experience and possessing only the info they've gleaned from sources like Jimbo, Luke Wilson, and others like them. These people most assuredly won't have insurance and their trusting customers will be left paying the price.

There are many excellent YouTube channels run by reputable car care professionals who have the best interests of the consumer and our industry at heart. Unfortunately, there are way too many YouTubers who present themselves as being veteran detailers which they are not and do so because the more subscribers and views they have the more money they make from their channel.
Sorry for the rant and hijacking the thread.

has anyone watched "Forensic Detailing Channel"
The Best Snow Foam Product Shootout - YouTube

hes in the UK but in that video he tests snow foams ability to clean by just foaming, dwelling, and then rinsing. he uses some manmade simulation of road grime. im a noob but it seems pretty legit.

only downside is the products are mostly UK only and in this particular video hes using high ph products which it seems most do not enjoy here.
but i would LOVE to see a test using us products and more ph safe products.

does anyone know someone who does similar type testing other than whats been mentioned already?

Not that I’ve seen as snow foams are not that popular in the US. I’ve tried a few and Griot’s Surface wash was best PH neutral one i’ve used although it doesn’t have the cleaning power of more Alkaline cleaners.

Bilt Hamber which Jon is high in is a great prefoam.

Griot’s surface prep is suppose to be good if re applying LSP’s

Shine Supply Hole Shot is one i’ll be trying next.

I also like Mkee’s coating prep soap.

Snow foams aren't popular in the US? Could have fooled me

BH is great but can't get it here. And it appears to be high pH where most popular US snow foams are safe pH and likely don't clean as well

Im surprised no one's wanted to test and find the best cleaning safe pH snow foam. I mean the whole point is to help the cleaning process
