I'm about to pull the trigger on some pads and polisher and 3d speed. What color pads should I get for my dodge charger, Iv'e heard paint is soft on these cars but not sure. Also wondering if I should just get 3d one instead because I want to add turtlewax at the end. But I want to work with something lightly abrasive for my first polish.

Orange and white basically. Orange has medium cut and is good for all around. White is polishing pad, very very little cut. Whether 3D or LC, both have good pads. Whether or not you want to add turtlewax doesn't really matter on what pad you're gonna use since that's just on the polishing stage only.

If you want to do any correcting beyond very light marring/swirls with the Speed, you'll most likely need the orange pads.

But, only a test spot can tell you that for certain.

Should I Just get 3 orange and 3 whites?

I would.

Then, after you do your test spot, get at least 3 more of the pad you find works the best.

You don't want to just have 3 pads for a whole car. They will load up with product, heat up & and stop cutting, and fail prematurely.

Yeah of course. So lets say when the 6 come in and white works the best. Can I use those 3 for the whole car? then order more for next time.

I wouldn't, personally.

But, if you clean them on the fly with a terry cloth towel, you might get away with it.

Should I get a pad conditioner at all for priming the new pads? what would be the best process? And should I get a pad brush as well?

A brush is a must IMO.

I don't use pad conditioners. Why saturate the pad before you even start?

So dont spread the product around in your opinion before beginning?

Just put a circle of product around the pad.

It will "prime" itself in the first few seconds.

I do not put any product onto the middle of the pad initially, as that is where it likes to build up as you do more passes.

Nothing against what Paul is saying but the reason I say 8 is... with the orange pad you can do some minor correction. With the white, you can basically apply it quickly and it'll clean your paint a bit as well. It's better to have more than less, and I think everyone uses orange and white pads in some way or the other.

Im just having a tough time pulling the trigger because I want to get 6 that will be the best for my car. I don't want 3 whites or 3 oranges that are gonna be useless for my job lol.

My car definitely gets scratches easily and chips pretty easily so it has to be soft paint.

and essentially if I get the brush I can maybe do 2 panels with 1 pad?

I totally agree, Will.

I use mostly Orange, but I will use White on certain sections that see less abuse/wear (like the vertical bed panels).

I have 20 Orange, and 10 white pads. Plus about a dozen others I use on occasion.

As mentioned in another thread of yours the Destroyer Gray tends to be soft and it can be tricky to get it finished down, you’re better off getting different pads and see what works the best. Are you familiar with a test spot?

Yeah I am familiar with the test spot. But dont you think I'd be better off with just the white pads? Am I able to order 3 orange 3 whites and return the ones I dont use?
