Call to Ban YouTubers

Hey guys lighten up if you don't like the poster scroll on by no harm no foul. It's not like YOU are paying for the bandwidth. By the way in case you did not know it, this forum has an "ignore" option. Access from the settings panel > My Account > Edit Ignore List - add the user names of the users you wish to ignore and viola no more posts from that individual. Be your own censor instead of banning people because YOU don't find their posts worthwhile. Others do. Choice it makes the world go round.

I use the ignore feature but I still feel members shouldn’t be using this forum to spam their YouTube in the first place.

Part of the problem I see is that people come here to learn about stuff. People posting their youtube videos here for more views when they post inaccurate information, sponsored information, is kind of insulting to everyone who shares their experiences and passes on knowledge to others.

I agree with Will 100% on this.

There are "How to" videos like Mike P posts up, and then there are "I'm plugging this product" vids that are rather useless.

If I am interested in new product, I have already read everything about it from the manufacturer. (And of course they are going to talk it up like it's the best thing ever.) I then get on AGO and ask the forum full of great guys & girls that have real world experience with it.

The last thing I want to see is another "commercial" about it.

I agree with this.

Yes, while I respect the idea that one can ignore or not read the threads we don’t like, it goes against the grain of what this site is all about to simply post an infomercial to make money off of (I assume their YouTube views = cash in their pocket) and then disappear from the forum u til the next filming is complete.

Other members who show off their detailing work for those to see the end result of numerous products is legit and discussing their experiences when asked is massively helpful to those considering products. But that’s not what the two aforementioned detailers are intending in any way.

Without bashing anyone, and respect for everyone.
Like this world needs more love and treating
each other better for. I’m not trying to bash
or insult anyone, or make them feel “inferior”
because they not.
^^^ :iagree:

•Nevertheless...the blame’s got to go
somewhere; and, FWIW:
-Please find below what is, IMO, a
feasible root cause analysis of the
OP’s current “YouTube problem”:

I actually don’t mind the Youtubers like Pan. Every once in a while they come up with an impartial endorsement for a particular product or a technique that we may find useful. I also enjoy looking at their garage setups. I do agree that this forum is not the platform for hawking their products or services.

I guess we will debate this the next time you come down for a burger & beer, UD.

@FUNX650 I like your quote, and I must say I’m guilty of doing that. I’m a follower and sucker for hype products. That being said, I think the OP is simply is stating they shouldn’t be violating rules here.

This world needs more respect, but I also believe that there needs to be some sort of responsibility on there content.

I would feel like an idiot if I was promoting products that I know don’t work just to make a few bucks. I get they have to make a living, power for them. I actually wish I could stand behind a camera and take the criticism.

I want my clients or viewers to have a better understanding of the products that actually works. Sooner or later people will see the inconsistencies and will stop watching them.

For example if I go detail your car would you want me to use OTC products? Or would you want me using actual detailing interior specific products, that aren’t harming your interior?

•Keep in mind that Autogeek sells detailing products
from quite a few excellent detailing product lines,
that, just so happens, are also available OTC.

•With that being the case:
-I would have absolutely no problems with you
using those particular OTC products when detailing
any of my vehicles—whether it be inside, or out.

Thanks for reminding me of the ignore feature, I just added you to my list.

You understand paid clicks? They make money every time u click!

That's how they become $$$$$ rich, they get paid for clicks, just ask the Kardashians.

Bob brings up a very good point...

Just because a product can be bought OTC doesn’t mean it’s of any lesser quality or ability than its “professional” counterpart. 1 of the biggest factors isn’t based on quality, but rather availability of shelf space at any given retailer, along with the target audience.

There’s endless OTC products that can produce the same results as professional line products sold in bulk. Just 1 example would be something like Meguiars 16oz. Leather & Vinyl Cleaner. It’s extremely comparable to Megs D101 APC@10:1 and I’d even go as far as saying most people wouldn’t be able to tell much of a difference if they took a Pepsi challenge with them.

Sure a detailer would look a bit foolish if he showed up with a bunch of 16oz. OTC bottles to perform a professional detail on my car, but it would mainly have to do with his/her inability to make smarter investments with his chemicals. Not his/her inability to achieve great results.
