Deepest wettest reflections

Hi guys, newbie from the UK posting on the forum here.

First up, BIG respect to Mike Phillips!

Thanks and welcome to AGO! :welcome:

Here’s one 6 months after my first attempt at polishing using a Megs DA Chemical Guys Hex Logic pads and Scholl Concepts S30.

I think it had Blackfire products on top.

It had a quick wash for this picture, topped with Meguiars Ultimate quick detailer

Here's your picture,

Nice! :dblthumb2:

Just to chime in....

While of course some LSPs will do a better job at creating gloss than others, the FOUNDATION for a super high gloss finish starts with a SMOOTH surface. And a smooth surface is a function of following the basics.

  1. Wash and dry
  2. Baggie Test and if needed clay the paint
  3. Paint correction - compounding and polishing or using an AIO
  4. Then comes the LSP.

Here's something I wrote back in 2011 and then snagged a picture of the truck we detailed here at Autogeek because it simply screams GLOSS!

Gloss starts first with a smooth surface...

This is the definition of a high gloss finish!

More after pictures of the yeller truck above can be found in the article below.

And the car in the picture below also has a super high gloss finish but the end results started with the claying step.

I'll suggest two different options. The first option is from my good friends pj and Dom - the Dodo Juice Boys. We carry Dodo Juice products but you can also find them on your side of the pond. The other suggestion IS for the Wolfgang Fuzion Paste Wax. If you do the right prep work (and you are doing it), then both of these product will create incredible gloss.

Here's the Dodo Juice option...

Here's the Wolfgang option.....

Note: The Fuzion wax is OUT OF FOCUS - because the paint on the fender is IN FOCUS.

I would say the Wolfgang Fuzion is a tick easier to use but both products will do for you what you want.

And most important - you can enjoy the process of applying and removing. We call it therapy. :D

Thanks for taking the time to read and respond to my post Mike. I have the deepest respect for you, your thoughts and your work, all greatly appreciated. I’ve just finished reading your book on the Rupes paint polishing system, very informative. Did you get your cut of the royalties for it?

I had to look twice at the car photos as distracted by the ladies, you sure do have some nice rides over there

Now I’m just waiting for the weather to improve so I can get my dose of “therapy” funnily enough, that’s what I call it too. My wife thinks I love the car more than I love her..... as if.?!

There's not much profit in writing how-to books. But I take greater reward in helping others to get further up the road.

When I first came to Autogeek I was single after just going through a divorce. When I worked for Meguiar's they frowned upon using models for all the cars I detailed while there. When I came to Autogeek in 2009 I simply wanted to showcase the cars with pretty girls for presentation.

Even my current wife Stacy was one of the Swirl Girls.

What I love about living in South Florida is for the most part we have warm weather year around. After living in Oregon (cold, wet, rainy), I prefer Florida.

Late to the game but I second the WG DGPS / Fuzion combo or one of each; or the PA Cosmic and High Gloss for metallic.

This taken from today is from IGL Premier which may also be available in the UK?

Thanks for that. Looks great on your car.... lovely car,btw
It is available in the UK,I’ll be sure to check it out

Some really good suggestions here.

To get back to the OP, polishing is to perfection is the number one key. The Rupes system is definitely capable of providing top notch results.

As for the topper, you guys have some really great Nuba waxes made there. I would personally give the Dodo Purple Haze Pro or Rubbishboys OE a try. Some other great UK wax manufacturers there also.

Wow TTQ B4U! What product(s) are you using for that wetness?

TTQ B4U,

I look at that first picture, look at my cars, and start weeping.

Me thinks he’s playing photography tricks with a really good camera but of course also with really nice finishes on the cars too.

HDR settings on a camera are fun to play with. I hate when dealers use them to take pics of cars for sale, they look so fake, and let down so many customers when they actually see it in person... :/
