Seems to me like you make a pretty good argument with the doctors.

I hope they changed their mind about the surgery so you can get back to your regular activities.

Nothing has really changed. I'm still in Limbo although I'm dealing with it better now than initially. It still hurts but I'm learning what I can and can't do. That and wearing a Truss which seems to help a little.
 
I finally have a substantial update to provide... Today, I got my surgery scheduled - April 26th.

I can't believe that is nearly 3 months from when this whole thing started.

In the meantime, and fortunately, I'm happy to say that my symptoms have improved... My initial concerns of not being able to do anything physically, and turning into a blob of jello while waiting for the surgery, did not manifest themselves in the long term. While I am still dealing with the symptoms to some degree, they are not nearly as bad as they were during the first couple of weeks and I've been able to remain fairly active since.

I attribute the lessening symptoms with three things. 1) They really have improved somewhat; 2) I'm dealing with and managing them a little better; and 3) I've been wearing a hernia truss, that while not very comfortable, it does provide some relief from the symptoms.

I'm looking forward to putting this adventure in the rear-view mirror.

Thanks Tom... That is the plan.

They did direct me to take it easy, nothing strenuous, even brisk walking (slow easy walking only) for 4 weeks. The typical requirement is 2 weeks, but because I did not quit smoking they want me to make it 4 weeks. They say that smoking slows the healing process.

This is the 5th surgery I've had in my life (left side hernia as a child, baseball testicular injury, knee injury - torn meniscus, gall bladder removal, and now this) and right now at this point I think the post-surgery pain level is a bit less than I recall from the others. We'll see what I feel like tomorrow - my past experience says that days 2 & 3 are usually the worst.

Glad to hear you were able to get your surgery done. Wishing you a speedy recovery and in the meantime @Mike Phillips has tons of videos to keep you entertained over on you tube.

Happy to report that the pain meds are doing the job. Oxycodone 5mg and Meloxicam 15mg. I feel about the same today, not any worse, or maybe just slightly. Definitely within the tolerable range though.

The plan is to get off the Oxycodone as soon as possible, hopefully not more than 2 or 3 more days.

And like Tom (TMQ) mentioned earlier in this thread, I slept in my recliner last night and that is the plan for tonight also.
 
Hurry up and relax. This is probably the hardest part for someone that has many hobbies.
 
Today's plan... Try to get through the day without any pain meds.
 
Good luck! I understand your reasons for wanting to be off the meds.
 
Two days without pain meds... I've turned the corner. Today is the fourth full day since the surgery and the pain/discomfort is on the downhill.

In fact, I'm considering spending a little time in my woodshop tomorrow!
