Hopefully sneaking a post-first snow car wash in tomorrow. Headed to my folks and love taking advantage of their super soft water. Everything just goes better with good soft water.... ODOT went mad with the salt last night my car is already covered. The Pure Grey paint helps mask the salt a tiny bit from afar which is nice. It is going to be a high of 44F tomorrow outside for the foam pre-wash. I will be pulling into a garage and using a garden hose from there. Sharing the garage with a '76 Imperial New Yorker means no pressure washer allowed haha. Standard two-bucket wash. Using Carpro Lift for pre-wash and Sonax Actifoam Energy in the bucket. I am liking that stuff the more I use it. Anyone else use Actifoam yet?
 
Winter tires/stock rims go on next Saturday, along with WeatherTechs re-installed

I haven't bought winter tires in over a decade. I just put some fresh Michelin PS All Season 4s on. Enjoyed them all fall, quiet, good grip in wet or dry. Surprisingly soft for all seasons but that's Michelin's for ya. Haven't found a tire that rides or feels better though. Especially for All Seasons. The nice thing about a FWD with limited slip means "sport" mode is also "snow" mode lol. For floor mats I rock the OEM VW rubber Monster Mats year-round.
 
I've found icy conditions are where the winter tires really make the difference. When you run a winter tire vs an all season on ice covered roads, the difference is quite noticeable. Many of the all seasons do pretty well in snow. In fact I think the Conti DWS's I ran on my GTI did quite well in snow and slush.

My issue these days is I run summer tires in the warm months and I'm addicted to the grip they offer. That drives a swap when the cold weather rolls in.

Knock on wood it has been a few winters now since we had any decent amount of ice on anything. ODOT uses Lake Erie rock salt like it's going out of style. The road my work is on looked graveled this morning haha. I feel like I will make the sticky summer tire jump once these are done as at that point we will probably have another vehicle in the family(I want a Honda or Toyota SUV) and I can do more to my GLI. Like park it for the winter.

Many years ago I ran some summer ultra high performance on my daily driver and I was in Sam’s Club in Nashville, TN when I came out to a parking lot covered in snow. I was sliding all over the place getting home. Guess it was a good thing I learned to drive in Fairbanks, AK. :) Now I stick with high performance all-season tires and I don’t have to worry about it down here and they last longer than 20,000 miles.

No discontent here. It was 40 degrees and sunny. The truck got a full two bucket wash while I was dressed in shorts and a t shirt.

At least I didn't sweat.
I will be getting out there shortly and getting after my car because it is dirty as hell and it's 47 and sunny....RW here I come!

Generally speaking the offseason is right around the corner for me. If the weather cooperates I'll still do the occasional wash, but for the most part I'm looking at ignoring the car from Thanksgiving to the 2022 Masters. I'll run it through a touchless here and there, maybe a rinseless or two as well, and that'll be it. I'll wonder what grime is accumulating and what my plan of attack will be in the spring. I'll fondly remember remember warm mornings with leaves rustling in the wind, the scent of the finest detailing products lightly being carried by a gentle breeze.

What do you all do during your "offseason"?

No off-season here. Having a climate controlled garage and multiple vehicles helps for sure. When it's stormy and nasty out, we will drive my daughters CUV that sits outside. Otherwise, we leave the other two inside clean and dry. To clean them when REALLY nasty, I'll take them through a touchless but then rinseless wash and primp it to perfection inside the garage right after. The only real difference is how Often I clean them. More in the winter actually vs summer.
 
I'm in Florida. Now is the season to enjoy cars and detailing since the high heat and humidity of summer has ended. I wash exclusively with a hose and foam gun year round in the garage That's why I moved down here. Wow, I've officially been down here for 17 years now.
 
I'm in Minnesota. Sucks here in the winter but I always find a way to keep my trucks clean as possible.
My stock sized truck I run it through the no touch at least twice a week.
My not so stock truck don't fit in any car washes so I have go to the you spray it.
I go there after 10 pm so I can break out the bucket and do a thorough wash and not have to worry if someone else comes.
Then I dry it off best I can in the steambath that is the 50 degree carwash.
I do this 3-4 times a week . I'll snap a few pics next time

No it's a newer outfit. Has regular garage doors.
Also has a spot free rinse that actually works pretty good

Had 4 days off for Thanksgiving. Not a one of them was decent enough for a wash. Sunday afternoon i could have pulled one off i guess, but the truck was really not that dirty. I confess, already miss doing the weekend details! Did inside things. Caught up on sleep, ran cleaners thru the washer & dish washer. And binge watched TV. And made a list of car care stuff i will need for next spring. Guess there is nothing wrong with just doing nothing. Just sometimes it's hard to shut that switch OFF from work. Use to being busy i guess.
