Glen is such a great guy too.

Rikki was a big inspiration when I was 11. I played along to Look What The Cat Dragged In almost daily.

I seem to be attracted mainly to pricey guitars, and haven’t tried coating any of them. But I did use Xtreme Solutions metal polish on the frets and pickups of a Gretsch I bought. It didn’t get me any closer to playing like Brian Setzer (my favorite musician/guitarist), but she turned out purty!

My other Gretsch has gold hardware and already has some tarnishing. It can’t be polished out, but if a ceramic coating would prevent it further, I’d give it a try (half serious).

Please don't do that to your guitar. The wood needs to resonate for tone and breath. The ceramic will choke that off.

I gently wipe down all my gear after playing. Lizard Spit is sold as safe for all finishes…be it Nitrocellulose Lacquer or Polyester. Nitro can get sticky on the back of the neck. It can get annoying when playing, and even keeping MF towel nearby for intermittent wipe down doesn’t seem to help.

I prefer the Fender style super-satin necks that are bare.

And on the opposite end of the spectrum, there’s the relic look. The more road-worn and beat up, the better it plays.
 
Bearing in mind it's probably got about an hour or so on it since I bought it, I've just used a clean MF so far.. & that was mainly to clean off some Dunlop 65 that got on the body.

On the upside, I fitted some Fender Lockers in place of the tuners it came with & threw a set of regular slinkies on it. That was a VAST improvement as the stock tuners had more play than a hookers knicker elastic.

Yes, I've seen all of those Simon videos!

His work on Toto Falling In Between is probably my favorite. Keith Carlock was also really good with them too.

Vinnie Colaiuta, and Phil Gould (original Level 42 drummer) were the two I would have loved to hear with them. Vinnie did do a couple songs a couple years back. As usual, complete excellence.

I ceramic coated a couple cymbals, and it slight shaved off some of the high end "glass".

I agree though, which is why I recommend Optimum Car Wax.

Opit-Clean would be great for general maintenance though.

Actually, a trio of:

Opti-Clean (for really dirty situations)
Optimum Instant Detailer (for general maintenance)
Opti Car Wax (protection)

That would really set someone up nicely for just about any situation with most instruments.

At the store where I taught drums we had some Gibson or Fender guitar cleaner that was basically Meguiar's M34 Final Inspection.

They used a lot of Megs M09 Swirl Remover for general polishing. My good friend who is the tech at that shop uses Megs when refinishing or building his own guitars. Motor City Guitar in Waterford, MI.

I let an old friend borrow my Led Paul Classic Plus (Heritage Cherry Sunburnt, w/ flame maple top) l. I really need to get that back...

Level 42's production quality back in the 80's was second to none...one of my favorites to this day

Vinnie C's work with Jeff Beck at "Live at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club" was incredible. I forgot the keyboard players name but with Tal Wikenfeld rounding out the foursome that night it's quite possible they were the greatest band on the planet during those couple hours

1985... That was a year before I started playing!

I'm heading to Metro 37 Studio to lay down some tracks at 2pm today.

I never got the hand of posting pics, but here is a PG13 video of one of the old bands I was in. The lead guitarist is in the new project singing and playing guitar. We're at the Machine Shop in Flint Jan 8th.

I wouldn't doubt it!

There's some videos of him at the Baked Potato which I go back to for guidance periodically.
