Ric, not sure what you mean by a "badass" but as far as elders go, I just turned 53 and IMO respect is earned, not given, we're waaaaaay past that here, especially with the mini recruitment afterwards. Sadly there may be more that agree but are sitting on their hands, both sides

Btw I've found that how people act at C&C is different because people like THEM would never talk sh!t about some import, they're too busy getting their stomachs pumped over 69' Camaros and 57' Chevy's, then again those people aren't usually at the C&C's I go to, no lawn chairs, billboards talking about 1 of X made with a Klennex holder, fake food on a tray on the window, crying kids on the quarter panel, fuzzy dice...like their thoughts on what they don't know, their rolling museums and history books don't change either

I looked up the word Jap and it has 3 meanings: abbreviation of Japanese, derogatory word for Japanese people, and Jewish American princess. Since there are 3 ways you can use the word, intent determines which meaning should be used. Since he wasn't talking about Japanese people, it wasn't derogatory and it was the abbreviation of Japanese. Now adjust your tampon and move on!

Well in the original post that started this it WAS used as a slur because that guy couldn't wrap his head around a Japanese car being as or even more collectable than the be all, end all collectable cars that are Murica muscle and before anyone gets butt hurt about Murica being used I'm born and raised in Detroit, muscle cars are in my DNA! Around the time I turned 30 I had a "transfusion" and began to become more aware of other cars and the people that like them. What people are trying to say is that there should be no ambiguity, no wondering of the intent. Such words just shouldn’t be used in polite society. I appreciate that we have people from all over the world sharing their knowledge about detailing and culture. Just learned today about something called chicken salt from our Australian brethren. If we want that type of interaction, we have to keep things inclusive.

I guess that goes back to we need to keep this sort of stuff out of all threads. It is clear by what has been said that the negative thoughts/feelings will persist beyond a single thread and we saw that same thing with the Covid thread and other political threads. I don’t pay attention to where a thread is, I read all updated threads so off-topic threads aren’t really off-topic with my reading style and I’m sure others are the same.

No I don’t assume anything on race as I am asian I know their are many variation of Hispanic culture which I can appreciate weather from Mexico, Puerto Rico South America, Spain and other countries.

Never told anyone to be offended by anything. I pointed out a word that he was defending was the same as someone saying another to Mexicans. I picked one specific to compares apples to apples (Japanese vs Mexican)

Yeah the problem for me started when he defended it as not racist with “his friends”. Doesn’t look good for you defending it. As Dgage said I all my actions were to point out its racist. I get that people may not see it or recognize it. He meant not of have racist intent. BUT IT IS Racist.

What’s weird is I been saying that every turn. I get it in a thread like this because gas goes with politics and racism unfortunately will get in their.

This all started in a Bronco Raptor forum from a comment a guy who drives two American muscle cars speaking on the car collectibility market.
