SONUS Motor Kote

Looks really good. Hyper Dressing works well. Which did you prefer between the two?
No preference but I've only used Hyper Dressing once. I'd probably be more likely to get more Hyper Dressing. It's dilutable and more readily available (and least in the spray bottle size).

Sonax plastic detailer and Sonus MotorKote are two products I have decided on. Have them but have yet to use.

Sonus is a popular one on AG and Mike Phillips likes Sonax plastic care which I believe is plastic detailer.

With the amount of Covid induced lock-downs over the last two years, lets just say I have had plenty of time to hone my engine bay process.

My go to product for engine bay dressing has been 303, but CarPro Perl and Meguiar's Hyper Dressing have also been in the mix too.

I don't normally use water on engines bays, preferring to use a APC or ONR to clean up what needs cleaning, using a microfiber, a brush and compressed air to clean out the various nooks.

I then spray the plastics and hoses down with 303/Perl/Hyper D, again using compressed air and a microfiber to level everything down.

Done!

The compressed air via a gun or Tornador would be the biggest breakthrough in how I deal with an engine bay, taking a lot of the tedium out getting into the ribbed induction tubes and slotted airbox housings.

Maintenance from this point onwards is a simple wipe over after each wash with whatever drying aid I'm using at the time.

These two engines I did with 303 and Hyper Dressing.

I cleaned engine with Power Clean, hosed off carefully then used a leaf blower. I then drive the car for a few to get engine warm. From there I spray down engine with either 303 or HD and let it sit. It dries perfectly and self levels.

nice work......the key to the engine bay is to stay on top of it from brand new.
It is easy for people to be lazy or flat out forget to do it.
Clean engine bay is HUGE on a resale of a car

I completely agree. Just stay on top of it. Even just ONR wipe downs weekly is perfect.

I pitch the engine bay as a ‘must’ when offering someone a sale prep detail. One line I always tell customers that seems to land well is…

“Anybody who is interested in your car will pop the hood. They may not have a clue what they’re looking at, but they know what clean is.”

In your initial / first post in this thread- is the finished result just from letting the product dwell and then rinse with water?
Or did you use any agitation with a tool ( Brush ) at all?

I sprayed APC as you see in the first pic(purple power)
I did some brush agitation and then I foam cannoned it with MEGA foam and let it sit 15 minutes.
Then power washed it off....then used my gas blower to dry it off.

The Griots product is really cool how it goes on, it is almost a dry dust...it dries instantly totally level.
only thing I hate is the aerosol can...40% waste blows into the air.....even in calm winds

I have been looking at inexpensive used cars with my older son this week, mostly from private sellers

Nobody bothered to tell them they should do ANYTHING to the engine bay...

Instant turn off

The flip side of that coin is the dealers that spray that hard shiny crap in an engine bay without cleaning the bay first

The stuff that cracks and flakes off 13 minutes after you buy the car

But like you say if someone doesn't know anything and just sees a bunch of shiny stuff they get all warm and fuzzy inside

I am glad luckydawg asked and you clarified

I wasn't sure just what I was seeing, process and product wise

I guess that Griot's spray truly IS an engine bay LSP

I really like aerosol myself- cause of the coverage a fine mist gets / provides. I usually spray early in the morning or later @ night where I live otherwise its windy all day long. Most of the time though i just pull it in the garage and its not so bad.

I have recently come across a couple of different hand held sprayers that I REALLY like, they both put out a VERY fine mist. One can literally spray a continual mist and the other will spray about three full seconds continuously on one trigger pull.

I just did this quickie post-winter underhood cleanup.

Cleaned up the compost in the scuttle and then hit everything with some Opticlean/OPC(more oily bits). Agitated the cleaners with a Boars Hair brush on the textured plastics and just a microfiber towel for the smooth plastics.

Once the APCs had done their job everything was lightly rinsed and wiped down and then hit with some compressed air to remove any cleaner and moisture from those cracks and crevices that lurk within the engine compartment.

Last is to put it all back together. I found a bottle of an old forum favorite that hardly gets mentioned any more Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant that I used on the engine cover plastic and then did the remainder of the engine compartment with Meguiars Hyper Dressing. It's not perfect, but much better than when I started.

I have never tried WETS but I know people on here say if your exterior trim is in good shape that WETS looks awesome and lasts a long time

I use a leaf blower and a brush, then wipe down with a damp MF and hit the engine with Meguiars synthetic spray wax, Once a week on thd old man's ute, but i vacuum the engine bay call me CRAZY i am but nothing beats the feeling when the post man catches you in the process and says What the hell are you doing?

I prefer Sonus. I like that it dries. Easy to maintain with your favorite waterless wash after.

Hyper dressing looks great and is my second choice but doesn’t hold up as long and seems to attract more dust than the Sonus.
