Recommendation on DA Polishers

Yes you can buy multiple different sizes of backing plates for a rotary. I use a 3 inch and a 6 inch. Flex makes damn good machines. If your looking to purchase a rotary i would go the flex route. Amoung many other reasons the big noticable difference is the wieght...they are pounds lighter than other brands.

Like i said b4, just get some junk panels to practice on so you can get a feel for it. Also when buffing...a lil tip...check the panel for how hot your making it. Heat is one main reason of how you burn through the clear. Edges of panels is another area to not spend to much time.

Just look up mike phillips as he has countless videos and threads on how to use a rotary machine. It will no doubt help you out when learning the rotary. I know it helped me, as i had nobody else teach me the ways of it

Thank you!

I honestly haven’t used rotary polisher yet. So no experience at all? :-(

Then practice on an old panel or with all the new long throws and microfiber/wool pads and good cutting compounds..do you really need a rotary? I was taught using a rotary (orbitals didn't exist), but more often than none, reach for my Rupes 15.

Would go 15mm or force driven DA. I would convert your torque to a permanent 3” and have helper attack the smaller curved parts that need it.

I am leaning towards Force drive DA....may be next one i can level up to rotary...yes being a chicken...i can do Rupes or Flex

pick up the flex 3401 (aka the beast). it comes installed with the 5.5" backing plate which allows you to use 6.5" pads. you can also pick up the 4.5" backing plate to use 5.5" pads...

Flex XC 3401

FLEX XC3401 Mini 4.5" Backing Plate

Man i was struggling between this and Rupes..haha choices choices! i did buy this on though as it has better reviews heard Rupes was getting hot!...purchased the 4.5 plate too. and some pads!

you made a great choice, i love my flex and griot's garage polishers! :dblthumb2:

Cannot say enough good things about the Flex 3401. Corrects like a rotary with the ease of a DA. With the option to switch backing plates and the endless variety of pads and products, it can do anything. I even use it with the softest pad I own on speed 1 to apply waxes and sealants.
