Help me choose my first polisher

Maxshine M8S gets my vote for the following reasons:

-It is similar to the porter cable 7424xp but has more power (900 watts)
-Already comes with a 5 inch backing plate from the factory and you can easily swap a 3 inch backing plate for smaller areas
-Costs less than $100
-Lifetime warranty

Both Maxshine and Shinemate machines are high up on my list of new machines I am considering to replace my setup

I get the sense that some people think of them both the way people thought of Kia and Hyundai some years back; capable, but maybe not as refined as Toyota or US built cars

Fast forward to now and they are the equal in many respects of any brand out there

There are several well respected pros out there that think very highly of their polisher lines and if you look a bit you can find them to be quite affordable

I am certainly not putting down ANY other brand and supporting American companies is a good thing, but most if not all of the machines in this price range are made in China anyway

Warranty is a big consideration as many have pointed out and I have no clue how good or bad warranty claims are for these products so that may be a deciding factor for some

Just thinking out loud here folks

Your mileage may vary

*Edited to add I am speaking from a DIY perspective here*

there are many american brands/companies that have their products made in china and/or use internals (sourced raw materials) in them made elsewhere. tesla uses CATL (contemporary amperex technology co., limited) batteries in their vehicles (biggest EV battery supplier). they (CATL) also supply to volkswagen, bmw, and a bunch of other car manufacturers.

the iphone (apple) is made in china. great product, right? hobbywing (esc and motors) are used in RC cars, drones, air/water craft, e-scooters, e-boards (remember Boosted?) to name a few products and are top notch.

all designed (and engineered) in the USA, made in china. there are different grades and quality. saying everything made there is junk is simply not true.

About Us - HOBBYWING TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD.

CATL- Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited

btw, i was getting an x-ray and when i looked up at the sticker/label on the top of the machine, it said made in china. it didn't affect my x-rays at all. i bet there were other important equipment (used daily) in that hospital (or any other for that matter) that were made there too that aren't cheap.

The shinemate 620 is supposedly more powerful than the rupes mark 3. Rupes machines look great but unless i done this professionally i will just stick with the more budget friendly brands.

The flex machines will probably work faster but many report they are not so enjoyable to use as the free spinning long throws. I really enjoy my free spinning DA It's fun.

I'm going out on a limb here but i would bet a small amount of money :D rupes/DA free spinning machines have a bigger market share than forced rotation .

The multi-national corporations and big banks back during Mao's time started to share all their technical know how/money in the context of industrial manufacturing to the mostly farming population of China decades ago. The rockefellers were a big part of it. It was not organic IE the rise of China. America and the western manufacturing workers got screwed. You know us white privileged folks!!? haha What a joke.

Sandro at Car Craft can’t stop singing the praises of the Shinemate 620 and it’s much cheaper than even my legacy Rupes 15, and slightly less than half of a Rupes MK III

It’s a front runner for me

reminds me of the whole (electronics) sony/panasonic vs samsung/lg. look at the market now, things change...

in any case... there are different options and choices these days (goes above & beyond detailing tools/products). buy what you like about the product, what makes sense, and what you can afford. what a great time to get into car care, happy detailing folks!

In Canada the shinemate 620 with 4 pads is only 289 Canadian and the Rupes 3 is 587!

If i was buying a new polisher though it would be the cordless shinemate polishers which is getting closer to the Rupes 3. Its 579, still cheaper lol

I like the Griot's G8 out of the box, super universal. If I could have just one, that is.

I combo'd it with the G9.

That combo is still a front runner as well

I know they are a solid choice

My issue with Griots is their shipping policies for Alaska as I have stated in the past

They only ship 2nd day or express and it’s crazy expensive

I am limited to buying most of their line and all of their BOSS stuff from a third party if I decide I want it since they don’t sell that line through the local outlets that handle their stuff

There are a couple other lines that only ship super expensive ways or simply don’t ship to Alaska at all so I choose not to do business with them

Yup

I can get the Shinemate 620 from Canada with some pads for $239 US including shipping

Kind of a no brainer

Just don’t annex Quebec
