Tunnel wash rant - Free speech thread

Our instant gratification society, if it can't get done in 2 minutes then they aren't gonna even try

I don’t buy it anymore when people tell me they don’t have time to hand wash their cars. It’s pure loopidity to use your term. I pass by an automatic wash on my way to gym and this morning the cars were almost lined up into the street, which has happened before. Some of those people are going to be there over an hour just waiting to get their car “detailed”. In that time you can get a really good hand wash and in half the time you can do a quick rinseless with better results. They just have an aversion to physical labor. I pay for a lot of things but I’ll never pay someone to repeatedly damage my property.

I guess the hour they are sitting there they catch up on their social media and eat breakfast and put on makeup so they consider it time well spent

I was stopped at a T turning left yesterday and a lady pulled in the right lane to turn

She had a big plastic bowl of what looked like cereal in her left hand and was eating with her right hand

She stopped eating long enough to turn when she got a break in traffic

I just sat there wondering why my insurance rates are so $&@!?/;” high

She probably was busy patting herself on the back for multitasking

Yep aversion to physical activity is the norm these days. I'm no athlete and I never liked the gym, but I do try to make effort to move my body. Today I didn't even get near a car, I walked to where I wanted to go,4 miles, every other day before dawn. My doctor tells me I'm in better shape than last year. I attribute it to consistent walking

It's really not difficult to do and if I do it I don't see why someone who dislikes being overweight and unhealthy can't

I haven't gotten to that point largely because there isn't a lot of pedestrian traffic in my neighborhood

Feel free to go back to discussing tunnel washes.

‘The unlimited wash is so convenient! I pay $30/mo and can use it eVeRyDAy!’

Did this one a couple months ago.

Even if someone isn't the least bit into cars I don't understand how that doesn't bother them. Luckily around here in the real world I rarely see paint that trashed I think it's due to there being more touchless car washes in this area.

I work hard for my money and buying a car is a huge expense and I’d like to keep it looking good for as long as I can. Other people just view cars as an appliance to get from A to B.

Most people treat it like an appliance and so many are in debt with car payments. You'd think they'd want it looking nice but so many don't upkeep their homes either so it shouldn't be a surprise.

There is a huge carwash in Anchorage called Monster Wash and they have both brush and touchless tunnels as well as wand wash bays

They also offer a hybrid where guys pretreat the body, wheels, etc and then attack it with brushes on broomsticks dipped in buckets and then they send you through the touchless wash

Yeah your car is clean but what the actual hell, talk about abuse

I went through their plain touchless tunnel once and it didn't touch the lift gate area, so I complained and they sent me through again with zero improvement, so I wrote up a bad review on Yelp and people came out of the woodwork to crucify me because I didn't have them rub my car with brushes dipped in mud to get it really "clean"

Morons

There is just no hope in the world if people actually WANT their cars rubbed with a brush.

If it works on teeth then it must work on cars too, right?

I think you are on to something here

We figure out how to coat cars with tooth enamel and then all correction can be done with toothpaste and that bubble gum flavored abrasive they use when they clean your teeth and our cars will always be sparkling white and smell minty fresh

I have to use prescription toothpaste. I have had no luck with over the counter kinds

But honestly, do you expect a robotic machine to get your vehicle completely clean? Come on man.

That’s the funniest part

I see people pulling out of the one where I get gas and the back end is invariably still dirty

So paint damage plus half a$$ job?

I wonder if people don’t notice the half a$$ job until they get home and even then I wonder if they even care

There’s a big sign at the exit that says something about if you aren’t happy you can go through again

Not sure I’ve seen anyone do that

Oh well
