Have a 68 Camaro that is black with white stripes. It is at the restoration shop now getting professionally buffed(rotary).

Other than that, I have alot of chrome, billet trim and billet wheels. (Have Adams aluminum polish both coarse and fine and not impressed at all)View attachment 77322

The only other odd ball things I need help with are shining up my headers. They were JetHot ceramic coated, but the shine has faded. What is the best way to clean and or polish them?(they are not blue or stained, just lack luster)

Want this car over the top to shine like a gem. I have the interior under control and undercarriage. What products would you recommend?

Very interested in ceramic coatings, but tried Adams top of the line stuff on my black DD and had major leveling issues with it as well as it not rainbowing and flashing instantly. That has me scared to death to try anything like that again especially on this caliber of a piece.

Thanks,
Greg

If you are talking about the exterior paint why not use Collinite 845. That is a very easy to use product that will give that deep gloss look.
If you are referring to your headers you said they are ceramic coated.Do they have a gloss finish? All ceramic coated headers that I have seen have a satin finish. Pictures?

Will look into the collinite ty

As for the headers, here are pics of new vs now. guess you could compare it to the look of polished and tarnished pewter

So that is a coating. The new picture they kind of look like stainless. My guess would be that the heat has permanently changed the color.

For the headers I would call Jethot and ask. I know some products one would think to use are advised against by some coating companies. They know what would work best while not doing any damage.
I also have Jethot coated headers. For some reason I feel they recommended cleaning with soap and water or glass cleaner??? Can't remember.

Huh, double post. I didn't post twice. Wonder if they counted as separate post counts?? Climbing up the ranksIm the MAN lol

Soap and water and/or glass cleaner isn't gonna work. Guess I'll wait to call Jethot on Friday

So curiosity had the best of me. I went to the JetHot website and looked up cleaning their coated headers. Their recommendation to remove stains and also they recomend once a year to clean them with aluminum polish. In the example they showed a guy cleaning a set of headers with aluminum polish and they looked to be the same finish/color as yours.
Think I would try some aluminum polish maybe on the backside or underneath. Would be best if the headers were removed, otherwise it will be tough to get everywhere.
I have always liked Busch Aluminum polish. Very good product.

I did try aluminum polish already in an inconspicuous spot and it did nothing at all. Was Mother's regular aluminum polish. Never saw or heard of Busch's. Will look that up! Always looking for a better polish to replace Mothers Billet polish that disappeared! That stuff was amazing!

Not sure which which Mecum you are attending. From my experience as a spectator, the number one pet peeve I see is big dollar restorations covered with dust and an absent owner to look it over and answer questions. Sure the detail for hire guys might get around and push the dust around but why not have a chair to sit in and answer questions and have a sell sheet with the car's info on it to give to interested parties.
Be an owner who tries to facilitate the sale by building interest in your car.

Dust is to be expected. I'd be more concerned about cars being rushed for a deadline to get to auction. I know someone who bought a Vette at a big auction. When the car was delivered he put it on the lift in his shop. He said the old shocks were repainted, the brakes barely worked and several nuts were loose on the front suspension.

The current OP is not included in the following. In my opinion the cars shown on television are many times grossly over valued. I have seen a few horror stories about cars purchased at BJ and Mecum. It seems like an uneccisarily expensive way to buy a classic car.If I was going to buy a car it certainly wouldn’t be in that environment. The booze is flowing freely at those auctions as it loosens up the wallets of the potential buyers.

I'm of the opinion that a bit of money laundering is taking place at those auctions.
