Quick questions for people who know. I have a bottle of Carpro Dquartz Gforce window coating. Used it on some glass but now winter is creeping up, can I put it in a zip lock bag and throw it in the fridge - or freezer - to make it last longer?
It was used 2 months ago, can it be layered on the glass done then, or has it been a bit too long to bond properly? It is slick glass.
Thank you

I don't know, I've never even heard of that coating (I knew there was DQuartz, just didn't know about the GForce), but I just put my leftover Gyeon Rim in the freezer, if that helps.

Gforce was released about a year ago, decent product. I have Kamikaze window coating on another vehicle and it may be slightly better, but pricier than Carpro.
Thank you for the info sir!

There is a whole thread here somewhere about putting coatings in the freezer, I believe everyone who had done it said it was fine, I think there was also some brands that recommended it, and some that didn't. Here it is: https://autogeekonline.net/threads/long-term-ceramic-coating-storage.118065/

There is also this thread with freezing discussions on the last page: https://autogeekonline.net/threads/armour-phobic.126668/page-4

PS: I just checked my Rim in the freezer, and it's still liquid--so I guess I'm sort of complying with the Gyeon guidance that says "do not allow to freeze".

I'll try the fridge for sure, a bit too paranoid to do the freezer, lol

I've only seen one company recommend putting their coating in the freezer. Nxtzen and their 365 spray coating.

If you can do that with any coating it would really have a black eye on the whole industry IMO.

FYI There are still companies selling the old Gyeon Coatings before the whole EVO Line. They must be all at least 3 years old.

The detailing industry is very shady. Like a lot of markets.

Gyeon is the most overrated detailing company on the market though. Prices are silly even on bulk items they don't cut a deal.

Can’t speak to the particular coating you mentioned but it’s my understanding that glass/window coatings are a bit of a different chemistry than paint/wheel coatings as they don’t harden and remain viable for quite a while.

I know the Kami Window will stay just fine for over year, opened & closed numerous times until used up. I have a Gyeon QuickView that is probably over 4 years old & it’s just fine, use it every now and again w no issues.

We’ll keep our opened coatings in the fridge at work but they get used pretty quickly.

I just went and looked at 1/2 a bottle of Zipang that I had leftover from Spring of 2021 and to my surprise, it looks ‘like new’ as far as liquid consistency & clarity goes. Never stored in any special way, just sitting in a cabinet for over 3 years…kinda surprised actually.

Yea, I have everything in a cabinet too. The Kami window coat I really like, but leave it for special vehicles 😁
To this day, of what I have tried, RainX is a hard product to beat performance wise. But it isn't as durable as many. Kami is very good and lasts a decent time, especially maintained with #7. But make for a special price duo... kinda PA style, buy it for the love.
Carpro is durable and more cost aware. I see Soft99 has a number of coatings priced decent, and of coarse they work.
But I also don't have enough vehicles for all different coatings, so will just stay with Kami and Carpro for now. 😆

Since it first came out, I have always had an inability to use RainX without creating a streaky, smeary mess.

I liked Aquapel too the few times I used it; easy and did reasonably well.

I have a bottle of Opti-Glass that I've had for a really long time, and that's in a plastic bottle with a sprayer.

Me too, but it seems in recent years I've been able to apply it thinner and not had so much trouble...or maybe I wiped it off before hazed so much.

I was able to get a good application of Aquapel, but didn't find it worked any better than simply cleaning the glass with ECH2O. I will point out I DO NOT us it on my windshield, only the side and back glass.

It’s funny you guys bring up Rain-X.
A couple of weeks ago my windshield wipers decided to take a $hit and I haven’t been able to figure out what it’s gonna take to fix them and I’m not really in the mood to pay through the nose to repair them.

A friend of mine found this 30yr. old bottle of Rain-X in his garage and I’m going to try it out. I washed my car today and prepped all the glass. I’m gonna apply it tomorrow.

Eldo...you are such a lightweight, 30 years old? I'm pretty sure my bottle is pushing 40, still works and everything.

Mine says it's made by Unelko, who sold Rain-X to Quaker State in 1998, so my bottle is at least 26 years old, and instead of the picture on the front of yours, mine has a little cartoon of a guy behind the wheel, which I presume predates yours, although mine is a 7 oz bottle, so maybe the graphics were different for that. My bottle doesn't have a label, it's all printed on the bottle.

I have always had great experiences with RainX. My only con is it doesn't last long enough. But performance wise it's hard to beat. 2 summers ago I applied it amd got a phone call and didn't get back to take it off for about 2 hours. The next day of coarse had to rain, but it was insane how good it was!! I mean I was sitting and water was running off (exaggerating) but it wasn't far off. It rained hard and I didn't need the wipers. Only thing is the superchargered water performance slowed down hours later (driving on a trip). Still good, but the ludacris preformance was less.
As far as application, I have never had issues. Years ago there was a product, Rain Away, I am not sure if it became RainX, but they seemed the same. Anyway, I have always used the Rain Away directions, not sure if thats why I never have issues.
Apply 1st coat, let haze, apply 2nd coat, let haze (leave as long as you want), I then have a spray bottle of water and 'mist' water on the windshield and wipe off with soft paper towel. Have a second dry towel to final wipe. I have never had streaks, haze, or issues ever.
While I love RainX performance, I have been on a hobby trip looking at other window coats. Some cleaner/protection sprays, Carpro Dquartz Gforce, Kamikaze Window coat. So far I find Kami has a good performance/durability balance. It's just the priciest I have. Carpro seems very tough, but doesn't get good till your getting up to speed. The cleaner/protection sprays obviously can't compete with dedicated treatments, but do help.
Anyway, I still think RainX is a good product.

Since we're on glass treatments, I really liked the Diamondite glass sealant, I found it much easier to use than Rain-X, but I put it aside to finish my Rain-X first...you can see how that's going. (I believe PBMG dropped the whole Diamondite line, they had a cerium oxide glass polish that was very good, I still have some of that somewhere) Of course as I noted I have Opti-Glass, also. That also was very easy to use when I first got it, I stopped using it for a while because it would clog up the sprayer. Last time I used it I found it more difficult, maybe some of the solvents evaporated, but I flushed the sprayer with IPA afterwards so should be good to go next time.

The Rain-X I have on the shelf has to be at least 5 years old, but I haven't used it in a while. I was given some Glaco from Soft 99, so I've been using that up. It seems to work slightly better than Rain-X, but that could be because the foam applicator built in to the bottle leads you to apply more, and use it up more quickly. But I've also been using Carpro Clarify Phobic, and drying, and doing the occasional RW with Ech2o, does anyone know how each of these effects the performance of the others when layered on top of each other.

As for leaving streaks, and this applies to both Rain-X and Glaco, I use the damp paper towel/lint free cloth method, if I see streaks after that, I dampen a fresh one and go again.

There's rain expected later in the week, so maybe I'll give the windshield a treatment tomorrow. I might even use some Autoglym Glass Polish before.PSX_20241126_155611.jpg

That Glaco bottle looks cool, reminds of the shoe polish bottles that the DG wax remover and 1Z Gummipfledge come in (came in?)

The fine print on this bottle says Blue Coral 1998.
