What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Oh, so it came up off the road, I get it. I thought you were kidding about the spoiler, but now I see a teeny spoiler in the picture, lol.

I guess I need to rethink how I've been doing headlights; you went right from the 3000 grit to the Meg's coating? Does that actually last?

I have always polished after sanding, and nothing I have used seems to last longer than doing nothing at all. I got a Cerakote kit which I haven't used yet, and they were emphatic about NOT polishing before applying the coating.

You’re right. After 3000 grit I used FCC and then M205 for maximum clarity. This was my first time using Meg’s coating but I’m hoping with a ceramic coating on top of it, the headlights will stay clear for at least a year. I’ve seen various people online get anywhere from 4 months to over a year. It seems that the people not getting much longevity didn’t fully remove the old faded coating and just put Meg’s on top. I always polish until the headlights are damn near crystal clear before putting any coating on. I did my dad’s two years ago and they’re still pretty clear.

I have no clue where the soot originated from but the majority of it came from the wheel wells and carpeting in the rear wheel wells but it was pouring out of damn near every seam. I got up close and personal with my pressure washer wand and went to town. It was probably the longest rinsing of a car I’ve ever worked on. I’ve seen dirt fall off of paint after smothering it with Auto-Foam but this stuff was pure black. She attends a small college in the rural mountains of NC so I’m assuming it coal ash but I could very well be wrong. I wish I could tell you more but I was expecting a black, mildly dirty 2017 Tucson.
Geez, if that's what the local environment is doing to its cars what is it doing to its citizens?

It’s only a guess. That’s the only logical explanation I have for what came off of the car. I’m sure there’s a better explanation but it eludes me at the moment. There were three of us and we were all shocked to see a stream of blackened water running down my driveway.

On headlights I've sanded the coating off of, I think I've only used Opti-Lens, but it only seems to last for 6 months to a year, and then the headlights are yellow again (even with multiple coats), so it seems pointless to put anything on, so I don't anymore and just polish them clear when needed. People were saying good things about Cerakote, but I emailed them and they insisted I had to sand them and not polish before applying, rather than polish the yellow off and coat. One of these days I'll get around to trying it.

I just remembered that the driver does live in the area hit pretty hard by Helene. Who knows what that car has been subjected to the last few months.

Is that your truck, Flash? I don't remember you ever posting a picture before, and now in 5 minutes I've seen your ass and your truck!

I wasn't planning on doing anything today, but Deyon's awards thread reminded me that I have Meguiar's Hyper Dressing on the shelf, at the back somewhere. I didn't think the Qashqai's trim was bad, but it did come up good, so easy to apply. I used an MF folded in quarters then rolled up, all done in about half an hour.

That's why I love Hyper Dressing, just looks so natural. Nice work!

I changed the oil in my pressure washer since I had recently learned it had oil!. It was a little milky so ordered a kit to replace the seals. I did not see any shaving, etc. in the magnetic drain plug and top side (looking down in filler) seemed very clean. I have not used it that much but it is about 10 years old.

This is a street view of my brother's house, yes, he has a double garage, but the left door is almost impossible to get a car in anyway, and yes, it is full of crap, in his case books and his martial arts training gear. You can see how he basically has no driveway to wash a car in. Both their cars are Bitsashiti Outlanders, so they really wouldn't fit in the garages anyway.

Most houses over here don't have a basement, or an attic either, so most people store their crap they won't throw away in their garages, if their lucky they can still get one car in, as we do. But the FJ stays outside mainly, while it is worth more than the Qashqai, it's paint is much less sensitive (water spotting) to the elements.View attachment 137512
Oops, forgot the picture.

Cool looking house. If you don’t mind me asking what’s a house like that cost in AuS?

I believe he paid just over $1m, but as they say with real estate, it's location location location. It's only about 10 minutes from the city centre. I often call it "the facility" because I think it looks like a CIA safe house from the movies.

I do not like folding laundry and this is worse.
If I just smash it in the recyclable container there will be no room for 2 weeks worth of cans, etc.
I already have the trunk filled with cardboard to bring to the work dumpster.
Buying detailing products is a lot of work....lol.
