What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Didn’t intend on doing anything today but I met a young detailer looking to up his game. He stopped by just to learn about products that could improve his skillset but he had some extra time so I took him through a hybrid rinseless wash, using a clay mitt and instead of applying a sealant I opted to show him how easy it is to use CanCoat. This is going to be the first of many lessons but just as some good people mentored me along the way it’s my turn to return the favor.

After a dust storm last evening, along with rain, our cars were HAMMERED...all hands on deck!

First was taking the TAOS through the touch-free wash, it did a good enough job but I did see water spots on the hood when I got home, so a 2BM wash is happening tomorrow at some point

As far as the EN goes, I pulled out the heavier artillery:

-ADS Decon wash & CarPro Descale in the Griot's Garage foam gun (3 oz ADS & 1 oz Descale)

-Gyeon Restart wash (2 oz to 3.5 gallons)

-Turtle Wax Rapid Decon wheel cleaner

-TAC System water flow in 2 different ratios for 2 different uses

I started with Turtle Wax Rapid Decon on all 4 wheels, let dwell and rinsed away, decided to not use brushes because they just had that dried up dirt from the dust storm, came out great

Next was the pre-wash and the combo of ADS Decon/CarPro Descale got to work breaking things down during the dwell. Once I rinsed I could see the water behavior and water spots underneath, so it was onto the 2BM to knock it out

I'm glad I've got Gyeon Restart, a product that gets lost in the sea of soaps but I can tell you this, for this application, it did EXACTLY what I needed it to do! Yes it stinks but it got the job done and actually suds very well too

I have TAC System Water Flow in a seperate bottle for boosting rims, did that and then reached for my 1/2 gallon jug where I've got it made for use in my Griot's Garage foam gun to apply to the entire car, this product finished off the wash with a nice boost in both GLOSS & BEADING

I used free flowing water to rinse it all down and drying was very easy and I couldn't be happier because the way the EN looked before and after made me VERY happy

Some people believe they quit making those cars because their target audience was beginning to die off. It’s nice to see there’s still some survivors out there. Lol

No pics but I spent the morning beginning my post winter deep cleaning on the interior of the bigger car. Vacuumed all the sand and debris from the rubber mats and pulled them out for deep cleaning. I soaked them with ONR while I got started on deep vacuuming the carpets. I broke out the pressure washer for the first time and once again the Stabil pump protector fluid kept it safe in the shed over the winter. I hung the front mats from my big trash canister with heavy spring clips, blasted the loose stuff off, and followed up with Spray Nine full strength and an arch brush. I let the suds dwell and got back on vacuuming the seats, console, door panels, dash, etc. I went back out and hit the mats with the pressure washer again and they were clean so I left them to drip while I cleaned the interior. I used P&S Express at 1:1 on the lower door panels, kick panels, threshold, and seats and used ADS Pilot on the screens, gauge plastic, piano black, rear view mirror, and brushed metal.

I brought the mats into the garage to finish drying while I tackled the base of the gas pedal assembly with a parts brush and Express to break up all the accumulated salt and crap that was tracked in over the winter.

I fished that all up and came in because I was getting nauseated from the Pic coils I burned to keep the mosquitoes out of the garage. I’ll get back on the second seat row later although it just needs dusting and a wipe down

That dust storm that came through was no joke. I thought the thick fog had moved in again but it was actually a giant cloud of dust that moved up from downstate and engulfed the City. I didn't realize until I was downstairs grocery shopping and a couple guys were talking about having to clean the filth and dust off their cars just to drive to work. Here's a pic of it further out on its way here.

We had a dust storm come into Sydney back in about 2009, it came in from the outback so the dust was all red. This is what it was like when I was leaving for work that morning. It had blown out to sea by early afternoon. But every car in Sydney that was parked outside was filthy.

My fairly next door neighbor gets his cars washed every two weeks.

I decided to see what they actually did. The man and women arrived in a plain white van. I suspect they do more than car detailing. They got out a pump sprayer and appeared to spray the vehicles and then wiped them down. Then they got out the pressure washer and sprayed and then dried the vehicles.

Polishing some hard water spots and various marks under the hood of the 500. Getting show ready, slowly but surely. Using Sonax polishes and microfiber applicators for buffing and going to go with a wax for under-hood glow. Either Collinite 845 or 915.

Got the sap mist taken care of first thing this morning, now it's ready to head to FuelFed Barrington C&C. Although not in the show ofcoarse it's going to be sitting clean, plus my daughter is going with me
