I finally purchased infrared thermometer today! Next on the list is Sun Gun or Infratech! :buffing:

Ooooo, Sun Gun!!! Supposedly there is a better Brinkman than the Dual Xenon and it's available at Wally World.

Isnt it simply to measure the heat of the paint prior to prep ??

I take it that it's marketed to the person working outside in direct sunlight? Prior to prep meaning buffing or the initial prep (wash) itself? What are the acceptable heat ranges when using one? I imagine you could measure the paint when doing correction as long as you know the max heat range paint it's able to be pushed to? Probably around 165 degrees like a normal paint booth?

How much was it Zoran? How does it work?
Are you talking about thermometer or Sun Gun / Infratech? If you are talking thermometer slightly under $50 (and free shipping :D ) It is infrared one, measures heat surface emits without contact. Has a laser pointer in it so you know where you are aiming. Went with this model and not more advanced one because I wanted to be able to easily tuck it away in back pocket while I am working.

That (max range) is what I will find out, but you are correct, purpose of getting it is to keep me on the safe side.

I can ot justify the cost of a sun gun right now..to me if you see marring with a brinkman and can not see the finer stuff just the major imperfection..you will polish out the minor stuff also...

I seen a comparison of the sun gun and the brinkman..granted the sun gun showed the most..both noticable and finer imperfection...but the brinkman showed the more than finer stuff...so the polishing will clear the stuff you can not really see with the sun gun...the comparison showed after polishing also..and they both showed imperfections were gone...

its all personal preference....its just the color temp of the light...

You can never be too safe in this business. :iagree:

Please report your findings.

I see no flaw with that. But that is assuming I can see them with Brinkmann. However, usually I have problem seeing them with Brinkmann. First, it is my eyes. Second, it is very rare I work inside where Brinkmann can generate contrast. I usually work outside where it gets overwhelmed with natural daylight.

It is not just color of the light that Sun Gun / Infratech are providing. What I hope them to provide for me is intensity.
