From "stay tuned" to T U N E D !!

Is there any reason why you keep going back to this company?

At some point you just need to move on. You've tried all sorts of combinations so far to resolve the issues, but nothing seems to work. To me it sounds like the tune itself is flawed and the only way to truly figure out what is going on is to do some deep data logging and analysis, which is a dark art in itself and nothing something you should have to do to find the error in someone else's software.

Personally, this would be the point where I'd scratch it up as a loss and start saving up to try someone else's tune.

Another thought. If you still are interested in a tune, are there any local places that will do a custom tune based on your other mods? The options might be fewer compared to those places tuning GM, MOPAR, or VAG vehicles, but it might be worth looking.

Yeah I bought the initial tune for $1100, on a brand new, spare ecu. That one didn't have this issue but was taken by the dealership when the 2nd knock sensor issue came up, replaced with new ecu, so I was able to send the original one back and reflashed for free. I know what your saying about going back

As far as local tuner, noones into Korean cars

My buddy wants to double check the "gap service" my tuner offered me, I mean it did break up on the dyno with the 1st tuned ecu and then random partial throttle issues, could you imagine IF gap was the problem

***UPDATE***

I sent my tuned, spare ECU back to this guy and it arrived in Canada on July 3rd. After waiting a week and a half I heard NOTHING. Then he says it's $100 more AND I'd have to pay duties and guess what...he said he never received it, yet it was signed for by Met customer (basically someone in his complex).

Specific emails about things went unanswered, as usual, so I'm officially done with this clown

I'm now in touch with a company in SoCal called LAP3, owner answered my questions and even took pity on me with a 10% discount. It's not cheap and ive got an email sent to him with 5 questions about this...stay "tuned"

Was this the first guy with the tune you've been having issues with? If you're sending it to his home in an apartment complex, it sound rather suspect. I'm glad you've cut ties and are moving on.

Let's hope this one works out for you and you get a tune that will work reliably.

Says he's got a shipping department but yeah, hope the next tuner is better, been doing KDM cars for over 20 years, although don't know what they really had before N cars, Genesis coupes maybe?

Velosters too maybe. They had two generations of those and then the turbo version right before the N one came out. Maybe they tuned up Tiburon's and Scoupe's before that?

How's this for answers, he addressed ALL my questions in detail

Nice, it really sounds like they know what they are doing.

It's good to see they have done what Hyundai can't seem to do and develop engine management software that adjusts to octane levels and other conditions dynamically. What is the issue with injectors or fuel pumps? I noticed a couple answers that seemed to center around the issue of fuel delivery.

Apparently bad batches of them, plus the Sonata N-line, with the 2.5L turbo, has a bigger/better HPFP and 8% better flow injectors.

The note about 93 octane for their 1.5 tune is interesting. You go west and south of our state and 93 becomes harder to find. 91 becomes the standard. The only time it isn't an issue is in higher altitude areas like New Mexico and Colorado where 91 performs like 93. I remember when looking at a tune for my GTI one tuner (APR maybe?) offered both a 91 and a 93 variation of their stage 2.

My car dictates 93 for max performance in the owners manual, but going through places like Arkansas, Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, and western Missouri, it isn't available and 91 is the best you can do.

Yeah 91 in WA… wonder if that would work….

Down here they sell race fuel and jet fuel, you could play mad scientist and just add some to the 91 to bring it up to 93. Id say a 5 gallon can of 110 race fuel would last forever mixing 91 up to 93.

Be the same as mixing your own detailing spray… just more explosive.

One year going to the Dragon years ago in my Abarth I accidently pumped a full tank of 87 octane into it. Once back onto the freeway my car only pulled 5 psi, no CEL but no power either! I called 500Madness, the maker of my piggyback and they told me that when I could, add a bottle of octane booster and it will be ok and guess what...IT DID

It's nice to know that failsafes do infact work
