Hey guys,

I am new to detailing and have been reading up on it a lot. My cousin has a G35 sedan that is silver and it needs a lot of work. The rear brakes on the car got so bad that it was metal on metal and the rotor dust actually got all over the back of the car. It is caked onto the back bumper, trunk lid, and rear quarters. I had never clay barred a car so I thought maybe we could give it a shot. We used a lot of lube via Meguire's Quick Detailer with a Zaino clay bar. The rear bumper was so gritty that no matter how much lube we used it would catch instead of sliding like "a hockey puck on ice". Also I noticed that when we used the clay bar on other parts of the car you could still see contaminants in the paint even after the clay bar quit making noise and slid freely across the surface. The rotor dust is caked onto the rear wheels as well. It will not come off with a clay bar. A little of it did, but it looks like it would take a really long time to get it all off. The car also was shoe polished and he ended up just going to the car wash and using the hand held sprayer to spray the shoe polish off of the windows. It is slung all over the car as well. It did not come off when the clay bar was rubbed over it, but it will come off if you pick at it which I know is not a good idea.

Here are some pics:

My main questions are:

1) Is there another way that I am supposed to go about getting the contaminants out of the paint besides clay bar or am I supposed to just keep running the clay bar over the surface until all of it is gone?

2) How would you go about getting the shoe polish off of the paint?

3) Is there a strong wheel cleaner that will get all of the rotor dust and old dirt off of the wheels?

I appreciate any help with this guys. I think this will be a great learning experience for me!

Thank you,
Harshil

Search for the words "paint decontamination". There are two manufacturers that make chemicals for it. It is for situations where clay stands no chance.

Hey Zoran. Thanks for your help again haha! I am the guy that you answered all of the questions for on corvetteforum about the flex polishers. I told you I would have more questions!

Poorboys Spray and Rinse would likely help on those wheels and quite strong. Shoe polish is likely going to need polishing to remove as possible.

Thank you for the information! Is Poorboys wheel cleaner safe on all types of wheel finishes (chrome, painted, etc.)?

The PB is amazing, I have used it on 2 G35s( a 2003 sedan and a 2006 coupe) and it has worked great both times. The product is very strong and very effective.

The only problem is now that I have found how good it works, I use it every chance I get and now need to resupply after one week and two bottles.

Haha, yeah I can see how that would be a problem. Have you seen it take off stuff this much contamination?

Thanks!

Hey, welcome to AGO :) and you are welcome! I would have never guessed it is you, too many nicks sometimes make me dizzy LOL

Ask away :D

P.S. Please notice "paint decontamination" products I suggested you search on are meant just for paint, not wheels nor trim.

The 03 had never had the inside of the wheels cleaned and they came out looking new. The contamination wasn't as bad but they were still pretty rough.

I also used PB on my Touareg exhaust and the pictures speak for themselves:

I really love this stuff!

Wow great pics cannondalemr! Yeah it definitely looks like the Poorboys will at least get most of the contamination off.

You have to wash the vehicle in a acid bath then neutralize it the wash it with a neutral ph soap, then claybar it. Look at cPanel® they carry that system. I have used it a few times works well gets all the rail dust, metalic particles out, just follow the instructions.

Thanks for the info! This car seriously embedded with metallic particles.

In this situation, would you recommend Poorboys over P21s or Meg's Wheel Brightener? I am curious how P21 would compare to Poorboys as far as strength to cut through the wheel gunk.

M-32 kit from Autoint.com

Thanks!

Thanks! After looking at cannondalemr's exhaust pics it looks like Poorboys is pretty strong stuff.

what is shoe polish used for? Never heard of that.

Hey Jerry, my cousin is in College and I don't understand why someone still shoe polished him as that is definitely more of a high school thing. Shoe polishing is when people take white shoe polish and draw or write things on your windows.
