Hey guys,

My parents got a couple of new cars this past weekend. I am getting ready to get a big order of stuff, like a Flex or PC and some goodies. Included in that order is going to be a foam gun. I'm not about to learn how to use a polisher on a new car, but I wanted to wash and apply Zaino to my parents cars. I have read that it is good to wash a car with liquid dawn to get any old wax or anything off the car before applying new sealants. My question is:

Is it safe to use Dawn wash soap in the foam gun?

Thanks,
Harshil

Dawn has a very high pH around 10 or 11. I would go with a soap one that AG has with the pH around 7 for your foam gun. The best way to remove wax from your paint IMO is a alcohol/DI 50/50 water mix wipe down...Dawn over time can be corrosive on rubber, metal and some plastics...

Thanks Sparkie! I only planned to use the Dawn on the first wash. Do you think that is even necessary? I was just going to get the DP Xtreme Foam Shampoo with the foam gun. Also could you clarify on what alcohol/DI is?

Thanks

there is NO need to ever use Dawn liquid on cars ... if your going to use a paint cleanser , AIO, or polish they will remove any old wax or sealant.

Zaino hyped the use of Dawn many years ago to remove wax specifically. It wont even dent a well cured sealant. Problem is it can dry out your weatherstripping and rubber surrounds.
