Overspray!

I have a problem, my whole car is covered with a fine mist of white oil based overspray (dark blue car). Do i just use mineral spirit to remove the paint and than wash/wax?

Will take pictures soon... just happened 30 min ago :(
 
you could probably use clay too get rid of it or bug and tar remover
 
The first thing I would try is Claying the car. Your saying this spray is fairly fresh makes me think the clay and lubricant should be the first move to make. Good luck and let us know how it comes out.
 
what type of oil, would a soap not remove it ??
 
Oil based paint that they used to paint parts of the building near the parking lot during somewhat strong winds.

Windows took about 15 min with hand scrubbing and mineral spirits, waiting for some sun to clay the car but im not sure it will take anything off; or should i just jump in with my PC 7424? (only have mcguire products right now).

Don't wait too long to do the removal. If it's still fresh, something strong like Laquer Thinner will work great(and fast) on the painted surfaces. Make sure to wash it before doing anything. You don't want to buff it off. It will clog up your buffing pad with paint and create more problems. Use your buffer after the oerspray is removed.
 
David, I have had two cases of overspray, 1st was a white 3/4 ton Suburban that be belonged to a guy that did quickie paint repair at dealers - whole thing had a a thick coat that took, OHC and wool followed by OP and foam to get off. The second was another white vehicle, 03 Lexus 300 ES, parked near a car getting some quick touch up at the used car dealer. I used Megs 95 then Menzerna FFII - same ornage LC pad via PC to get off and it looked good afterwards. BOTH times, I clayed - useless, and ended up doing the compound-polish route. But, both had set a while with the overspray on them. I didn't have any thinner, but I may get some if I run intro this mess again.
 
Would the thinner be safe on my clear coat? I tried it on the bumper and it took the overspray off, im just not sure how safe is it. Would you recommend wash - thinner- wash?
or spray it with soap/water after thinner and than wash when done.

do the thinner then wash the car. It's ok to wipe on/off, but you don't wanna leave it saturated on the paint.

For an oil-based paint, Mineral Spirits or other thinner will be the best bet.

Jimmy - I'll have to send you a piece of 4000 grit sandpaper to try next time. You can remove even the worst paint overspray from a vehicle in 1-2 hrs (tops) and requires only a light polish afterwards. Trust me, you'll fall in love with it.
