Frayed orange pad

I accidently hit a piece of the grill with the orange pad. The edges got chewed a bit, not smooth anymore. Is this pad trash now? The whole midsection is fine, it is just the edges in some places are uneven, missing material. Thanks, Rick.
 
You should be ok. What brand pad do you have?

I have an LC orange pad that has been used on 5 or so different cars mainly using Meg fine cut cleaner. Like rjom mine is not in the best of shape anymore. At what point does one say it's toast and toss it for a new one?
 
Even if there is surface damage to the pad, there is plenty of foam left on the pad which you can still use, you just need to work at it a little bit. You can buy a Duo Spur and it comes with 2 abrasive plates (like a cheese grater) which will slowly remove the top layer of foam, leaving you with a fresh pad again after a few minutes. The downside to this is that it won't work on a PC or UDM and probably not with the Flex either, only a rotary polisher...
