How can I get the most out of my PC?

I plan on doing some cars soon that may have minor to major swirls in them. What do you guys recommend as far as more products and pads? How can I make my pc work hardest on paint?

If you REALLY want to get that PC working more effectively, make the switch to 4" pads, with a 3.5" backing plate. You'll be able to generate more heat due to less friction/weight to bog down the motor, and in turn, will be able to remove more serious defects and break down polishes faster. Pick up a 3.5" backing plate, a few 4" yellow LC cutting pads for that SIP, and a few 4" green polishing/finishing pads for FP and you'll be set.

i have yet to switch over to the 4" pads. I keep hearing 4" or the 5" pads but i only see the 4" and 5.5" pads. I currently have 6.5" pads and as far as correction goes i was able to do a little correcting, but i'm sure like everyone else here states switch over to the 4". I'm going to just use the 6.5" for my Makita.

I think everyone means 5.5" when they say 5", I know I find myself calling 6.5" six inch pads as well. But they are right the smaller the pad the more heat, equaling more results!

so it would be benificial to use the 4" pads then on the PC? When i initially baught my PC the detail supply place locally changed out the backing plate and i purchased some pads that they recommended, but after hanging around here the past several months i realized that the 6.5" pads they told me to use were just to big and no for correcting. I'm really thinking of making the change to the 4" would that be better or the 5.5" pads?

now you don't recommend using the 3.5" backing plate or don't recommend using the 4" pads and the 5.5" with the 3.5" backing plate? Sorry just making sure before i order.

The 3.5" backing plate is an excellent choice with the 4" pads. Just used mine yesterday and had great luck cleaning up a beaten black hood, full of swirls and sap remnants (orange 4" w/Menz po91e). I believe what Matt meant was that this backing plate was not usually recommended for use with pads over 4" (althought he has done so with success).
