Porter Cable Kit which one?

Hello

I am looking into getting a PC but I have never used one of these before. From what I have read they are easy for a beginner. AG offers a lot of kits, which one would you choose?

What will they be used on? 2001 CR-V and 2006 Acura RSX . The V has minor scratches and the RSX have one or two. Both are in really good condition.

I normally use PB products and top EX-P off with Souvran.

Stick with the 5.5" pads, anything bigger will not correct properly. I don't think any kits come with the 4" pads, so may want to buy these separately. You'll need a 3.5" backing plate.
 
I like the ceramiclear kit with 5.5 pads and buffers ....sorry to confuse the issue.
 
I was looking at the Wolfgang kit, one bad for one Wolfgang solution and one pad for the other. Seems simple.... at least for a newbie :)
 
Go with Killr's recomendation you won't be sorry for getting the 5.5" pads instead of the 6.5" pads. Or should I say you will be sorry for getting the 6.5" instead of the 5.5" pads. LOL

Why is that? Granted I'm a PC beginner, but I've used the 6.5" pads on an Audi and a Toyota with great results, with Pinnacle ASR and AFP.
 
The larger the pad, the less aggressive it is via PC. The opposite is true with rotary circular polishers, the larger the pad the more aggressive it is.

That doesn't mean that a 6.5" or 7.5" pad won't correct with a PC. It will work but it'll simply take a little bit longer.
 
smaller pads are quicker at removing swirls and anything bigger than 5.5 won't do much correction using a PC. On a Honda and an Acura (softer paint), the PC, 4-5.5 pads, and some polish and you'll be set.

Additionally, the bigger pads bog down more under pressure.

There are a lot of threads on this subject. The 6.5" pads will not rotate as well as with the smaller 5.5" pads. You also cannot apply as much pressure with the 6.5" as with the 5.5" pads. As mentioned, you might want to consider getting the 4" pads for more serious correction. If you are happy with the 6.5" pads then by all means get it. Some things in detailing are subjective, but this is a fact.
 
Thanks for all the info. I already have the 6.5" pads. Mainly because the AG kits come with them. But also, I didn't bother checking which was better. A lot of the threads I read prior to my purchase talked about 6.5" pads. I was thinking I would just need additional 4" pads to do a couple of the tighter spaces on the vehicle. Oh well...I guess when these pads wear out, I'll get me some 5.5" pads.

Thanks budman. Yes my 6.5" pads removed all the swirls on my Audi which I've read on here has rock-hard clear. The orange pads with ASR worked wonders. Each panel took about 3-5 minutes. I'm guessing based on what you guys are saying that I could be done much quicker with the 5.5" pads. This thread is 3 months too late for me! LOL.

Definately agree, the 4.5" pads are really good at removing some of the tougher defects via PC
