flex vs pc

no. but if I get a rotary I think I will use it for compounding and use the flex for polishing and the fine stuff....if it vibes less that a PC/UDM Im sold on that alone. sometimes I feel my UDM is 90% vibe and 10% correcting power....

That's what I do now.

Just curious why you guys wouldn't use the rotary for a final polish or very fine correction, it just doesn't make any sense to me. Just trying to get your reasoning behind this, not bashing at all.

because it sounds like that where the holograms come from...i have no idea. Im sure eventually i would but as of right not its the heavy compounding with the PC thats time consuming....

It really depends on the paint for me. I just like how easy the FLEX is to use, plus it virtually eliminates the chance for swirls. I will do a test panel to see which tool works best, but usually end up using the FLEX.

The paint on my TSX is kind of "sticky", and does not like to be finished off with a rotary, yet the FLEX works perfectly.

Don't get me wrong, I used only a rotary for my first 14-15 years and I love it, but now that I have my FLEX, I just like using it more. Time usually is not a factor for me either.

Maybe I'm just getting old. :D

Cheers,
Rasky

Time to Compounding

Can somebody here advise me on when is the time to compounding my car? I admit just polish itself doesnt give a reflections like mirror even its fully swirl free. I had used Meg M105 with my flex before but cannot get the reflections like glass if i'm using a rotary with M105

well Porter Cable is making an attempt at getting back some of those customers they lost to Flex. there will be a new PC coming out

which is still nowhere near Flex. Flex DA is like a mini rotary. it gives you speed, not just vibrations, which wear the user out. I'm not switching back.

the vibration is supposely almost eliminated in the new PC and it has a little more power than the orignal.

Times are tough but the PC takes FOREVER!!!! to correct with.Go for the flex and save time, aches and pain.

supposely, and they slightly might have. The problem is that PC pretty much uses vibration to remove swirls, where Flex is like a mini-rotary - it rotates.
This is a bridge in between rotary and DA, and I wanna learn rotary to do much faster corrections...

True that, and that's what I did, and never look back.

my question is when comparing the pc using a 4" pad (suggested choice for corrective polishing vs. the flex 5.5 pads, is the flex that much better considering the price? have read that the flex doesn't have many backplate options...

thanks.

Giving the Flex is forced rotation, the lager the pad the more effective it is...just like a rotary. 5.5" is my most used pad size and I rarely need a 4" pad.

Well, I have a PC, had a makita rotary - sold, and a FLex. Which do I use every detail - the PC. Why - most of my customers don't want and won't pay for paint correction, so it's a light polish (FFII) and a wax or ZAIO and Z5. I get more concern and compliments on the interior than the paint - long as it's shiny and slick, they're happy.

Another thing, with the new "Kevin Brown method" - I know several pro's that are just using PC's and Megs 105/205 - no kiddin

I have a PC and polished a car with it. My hands felt like mush afterwards. I didn't like it at all. Needless to say I ordered the Flex and I hope that it's easier on the hands than the PC is.

I'll still use the PC, but for paint cleaning and putting on sealants only.
