I know that common usage determines all things linguistic and I know that everyone pronounces Souverän as "SOV-er-an," just like one pronounces the word sovereign; but I have to admit that this pronunciation doesn't make any sense to me. I look at the word and I hear "SOO-ver-an." And wouldn't "SOO-ver-an" be closer to the German pronunciation (http://www.leo.org/dict/aussprache/s/souveraen.wav)? Does anyone out there pronounce Souverän "SOO-ver-an"? Anyone?

Cute! :D I actually saw a thread one time and the guys signature had a link to hear Souveran pronounced right and it was wrong!:p Pronounce it however you like, it still gets the job done!:buffing:

Like Ms. Moneypenny told 007,"James, you're a cunning linguist."

Hey akimel

I too always thought it was pronounced "SOO-VER-AHN"

Haha! Now that's three of us--just the right number to start a cell group and start a linguistic revolution! If Pinnacle really wanted us to say "SOVeran," they should have left out the "u."

Say "no," friends, to pronunciation oppression. Don't let the Man dictate to us how we speak our words. Take back our language.

SOOveran! SOOveran! SOOveran! :D

Cheers,
Al
