My buddy bought a couple at the auto show and we were curious to see if they worked as advertised. Pretty useless for drying the car. They actually hold a lot of water, but also leave alot behind. It just seemed to smear the water around.

Thanks for the report. I thought as much. Years back I bought something similar and that's exactly how it worked...worthless for car work.

These were actualy talked about on Ope and Anthony last week. Bill Bur described their water attracting capabilities rather poorly i believed he said "a crumpled up plastic bag would pick up more water" :)

They're made in Germany, and the Germans always make good stuff ;)

anything on tv looks like its the greatest thing..

i would buy sham wow if the guy would stop being a dork..:D

ShamWow looks tempting, but I've learned the hard way that the actual quality of the product is far worse than how it is presented on TV.

But thanks for the report, at least now we know for sure.

I was given a sham wow to try one time and was very unimpressed. After the hood i went and got my guzzler.

My guzzler puts the shamwow to shame, but I have to say that it actually holds alot of water and is very easy to wring most of it out for the next use. Just a light twist remove most of the water it holds. It's terrible for drying the car since it leaves behind a lot of water, but it's great for picking up big spills in the kitchen. Seems really durable too. It's gonna save me a lot of paper towels.

i use a water blade and an absorber.

I would ditch the water blade, and if you want to use the absorber, lay it on the car on panel at a time, don't drag it across your paint in any way shape or form.:D

In the ShamWow commercial, when the weirdo pours the cola on the carpet, have you noticed that the liquid below the carpet magically disappears before he even puts the towel down? Check at about 38 seconds in this.

I saw a live demo of that at the mall the other day and it really does soak up liquids well. It's just not good for drying cars.

i dont even know the shamwow guy but for some resone id love to kick the crap outa him ...

"It's a sham---Wow!"

I'm sure there are alot of happy dogs though.

Probably fine to use around the kitchen, bathroom and other areas of the house. Doubt I would use it on the car. I have some hoods I purchased from the salvage yard I practice products on. Maybe I will try a ShamWow on them to see how it dries them and if it swirls them. If it does swirl them, who cares. It gives me an excuse to practice polishing with my rotary.

If you look closely at the part where he pours the liquid from the soda bottle onto the swatch of carpet, he then raises it up to show the large puddle underneath. He'll say, "you keeping up with this camera guy?" That shot of the carpet then changes just as he gets ready to blot it up. If you look closely, you'll see that the large puddle is completely missing. He then wrings it out and the amount of liquid is greater than that shot to indicate he blotted up the original amount.

This is the sham. Wow... Talk about slight of hand. The old diversion technique.
