i know this may be a redundant post, but none of my searches on the various detailing forums have given me a straight answer.

I just bought a xc3401 in a classified ad and now all i need is some pads.

What are the 'must-haves' of pad color?

are orange, white, gray enough to handle day to day tasks?

I have two combos to detail with (1 my DD, 1 my baby)

For the DD I am thinking about using 1Z (green can) and a white pad since i have minor swirling. For my protectant I have collinite 847 (base) and 476 (topper). I am thinking of applying both with gray pads (is this sufficient?)

For my 'baby' I have menzerna polishes and opti-seal. Im betting on the car having hard clear

SIP - Orange pad
106FA - White pad
Opti-Seal - by hand.

You will also need atleast 2 blue pads for final polishing after your fa/white pad combo.

You would either use it with fa after using it with a white pad or another finishing polish like 85rd or 3M Ultrafina.

I saw your threads on detailingbliss as well and that really what raised the question in the first place.

So in your opinion:

SIP - Orange
106FA - White
106FA - Blue
Opti-Seal

my thought proccess is that the SIP takes out the heavy swirling while the 106FA corrects any marring by the orange pad. The Blue pad helps to Jewel the paint further, correct?

You got it. Never finish with the white pad. Always finish up with a finishing pad with a finishing polish. I saw you just joined over there.

Asphalt, In your opinion can you use a black pad instead? Or would a blue pad be needed.
