I find hand polishing on all but the lightest of finishes to be impossible or downright hard at best. I suggest to most that do not / have not a buffer to consider a filler product instead. Yes it is temporary but will hard swirls and markings for some time and at least initially looks better than most hand polishing. Obviously a buffer is the best in choice for polishing. You can find some sealant compatible glazes (fillers) like Poorboys as wanted.

With the release of Meguiar's consumer line of polishes (SwirlX, ScratchX 2.0, and Ultimate Compound), now available through AutoGeek, it will be interesting to read the reviews that will no doubt be forthcoming in the weeks ahead. These products are based on Meguiar's new micro-abrasive technology, the same technology on which Meguiar's M105 is based. Perhaps they really are capable of effectively removing swirls and scratches by hand. No harm in giving them a try! Please let us know, Kay, how they work for you.

BTW, what wax/sealant have you chosen? That may determine what needs to be done after the application of SwirlX.

You should be able to find a number of products that can be used to remove marring when hand applied.
I did it for years, using a cotton terry wash cloth to apply and work the product.
It is a lot of work and I don't think I would ever go back to it.
Save your money for a decent polisher and be prepared to spend $100+ for one worth having. The $39.95 units aren't the answer. Tried one and gave it away to a friend.

todays modern clearcoats are just about impossible to correct by hand....why not invest around 200 bucks to get a pc and some pads and polish and do the job right....the machine will pay for itself the first time you use it, not to mention the time you will save adding coats of wax or sealant using the machine...i can add a layer of protection to my acura in less then 20 minutes using my pc...

i just got done doing a correction to my car after the dealership washed my car and swirled it all up...using the pc it took me 6 hrs to do the car from start to finish...one pass with polish, one pass with poliseal, one pass with 4 star upp which is a sealant....i cant imagine how long it will take you by hand not to mention not being able to do it as good as the machine....

lol....i hv no idea where i can get energy from

i dont have a garage but i really want a polisher now

I have to agree with most other members in saying to save some bucks if you can and purchase at least a Porter-Cable and if you can swing it, a Flex. You will be so glad you did.

It is possible to remove swirls by hand but you will not get the same cleaner and swirl free result when using a DA. before i got a DA i attempted to remove swirls out of my dads company car to see if it could be done and it took 4 passes with scrathx with passion to just minimize them. IMHO save money and buy a DA, its worth it and its very versatile

All the information is right on track and buying a polisher would be great, but he doesn't have any electricity to run it.

No garage is bad enough, no power source is even worse.

yes= =is it possible to use car 12V?

I just wanted to chime in that I agree with all the posters and I too have tried everything to remove swirls without using a nice polisher such as the Porter Cable 7424 or a Flex or Makita unit. I've tried ScratchX by hand, 3M Compound and 3M Swirl Remover with those $30-$40 buffers at KMart and Target, etc. Any success is minimal at best. To truly get rid of the swirls and scratches, you need the high rpm's of a decent machine polisher.

Power inverters that supply 110 volts from a 12 volt vehicle system are available, but.....
If they worked all that good, I think we would read more about them.
A Google seach brings up a lot of info, but I think I would try to talk to someone that has used an inverter before I invested in one.
Can you run a drop cord from inside of your living quarters?

Do a search here at AGOL for inverter. Specify "posts" where it asks if you want to show threads or posts.
You should find some information that might be of some help.
