Detailers Confessional

Oh man,I hate hearing this kind of stuff. We work hard to buy the nicer things in life and then some low life selfish person comes and violates our personal space and steals our prized possessions. I am very sorry:(

I've been known to have things shipped to me on tour, not necessarily from AG, but other products, tools, etc, and store them in my workbox. It comes home finally in July after we wrap in Europe. Now I have to explain all the goodies I've picked up, cause there isn't anyway to hide them all...

im one that does this. i even use my work email address so the wife cant see the purchase and shipping verification.

nitro78: Looks like you have a system down. Care to give a few tips to the rookies on sneaking the necessary detailing items into the home without the better half finding them?

My wife is a housewife and cargiver to my two boys, as such I never get to open my own mail or packages. It is rather funny to get a call mid-afternoon being scolded for buying more MF towels under the call "I have to test them for work purposes"....

Killr: If the lady in the Avatar is your wife you are already blessed. If not you must be doing something right for the wife not to make you replace the Avatar. You are wise to have the purchase sent home and deal with the aftermath. Remember once it is in the house it is a keeper. The scolding will pass in time. I like the tag line “I have to test them for work purposes", may we freely use it in our time of need?

Misty: I am truly sorry to read of the break in and hope that everything gets resolved quickly and to your satisfaction. It is a bitz to have that happen to such a nice lady.

nrengle: Is it not possible to have the items shipped to a good friend or the home office? If that is not possible I would suggest a few baubles for the wife at home

With my line of work I never go to the management office. I've actually worked for Disturbed for 9 months now, and have yet to go there in Chicago. As for shipping to a friend, I rarely see them since I'm on the road 10 months out of the year, but my wife sees them all the time so that could be bad.

Oh well, I pick up something nice from Prague on the 3 days off I have there for the misses and she'll forget about it... Anyone able to recommend some nice crystal to look for?

if it is something small i will bring it home when she is gone an put it on my product shelves and she never notices. however larger stuff like gallon sizes are harder. she has once asked me if some product was new and i told her that i have had that for quite some time ( i consider one week quite some time) and she just rolled her eyes at me and starting laughing, however if i know i cant get it in the house my last option is to bribe. i get a flex, my wife get a new coach purse.:D

I can see we need to talk about sneaking detailing supplies into the house without the better half finding them. The best place to hide them is in full view. Getting the supplies to the full view place unobserved takes practise.
I put the boxes (they were not all that big) behind some chairs in our already cluttered garage, but she sometimes snoops around, and apparently she noticed that something looked different, so she found the boxes while I was not home. I actually found this out from my 4-year-old, who tends to tell me stuff that she gets upset about while I am away at work. ("Why did you order more car wash stuff? Mommy got mad. She said, 'No more!' ") He's like our little message post for private thoughts (I think she tends to voice her opinions aloud when she is just with the kids).

We're working on organizing the garage anyway, and I plan to invest in some closed-door cabinets so that products can "disappear" into them in the future (Sam's has some nice metal ones that, I believe, come with key and lock!)

Any other suggestions?

Those packing peanuts always stick to my clothes...a dead giveaway.

After a lengthy "Oh, I'm soo hurt.....I can't believe you think I bought MORE from AG!!", then the wife pulls a foam peanut off my shirt.....BUSTED!!!!!

OK I HAVE A GOOD ONE!!! :o

Lady just called, I answered the phone, thank you for calling Autogeek, how can I help you...
She said in a voice that reminded me of my mom alot when she found me doing something I should not have been.....
What do you sell??
I said we carry car care products :autowash:
She said, still in a MOM's voice.... be more specific, I found a charge on our credit card, from my husband.

(now we have entered the danger zone) I really want to say we carry Coach purses and he must have gotten you a surprise gift!!
But I can't and he is trouble now!

Well guys, I got my AG package yesterday when I got home (my first 1/2 Summer Friday at 1:00), but the unfortunate part is I came home to a house with broken windows on backdoor off of kitchen and $8,000 of missing electronics in my home. They took off with our new 46 inch LCD HDTV and our 2 Dell XPS M1730 gaming laptops (I am kicking myself becuase our laptops came with LoJack to track them by gps and my husband and I did not install it as our laptops stay at home and do leave the house) Ugh! I am at the office right now, since this is the only computer I have now, and filling out paperwork to send to Detective. I just wanted to check in. Sniffle Sniffle.

Dman man that really really sucks. You had happen what, I am sure, a lot of us worry about happening to us, but think "Its not going to happen to me".

Sorry I cannot recommend a decent crystal but you are on the right track.

Bribes work wonders. A coach purse may be the ticket. Buying a knock off would be a no no.

Al1515:
Sears Craftsman Club has a nice assortment of cabinets on sale for the CC days now through July 4th.

Shinystang:
Try grounding yourself before opening the AG box or order the purchase with recycled packing materials. ;)

Telling the truth is always the recommended option. Since this members wife called AG,, I would suspect that asking for forgivness is not a valid option in his case.

Remember guys and gals always tell the truth, that way you will never have to remember what you said.

Are you guys just sinners in general? or is it because most people cant possibly understand why anyone would spend that much time/money/effort on their cars appearance? I luckily dont have to answer to anyone regarding my purchases.

In my case, the latter explanation sums it up well. Consider yourself lucky (at least just with this one situation - spouses are actually good to have in general :))

BTW, what do you think you would do if your sig other (assuming there was one) told you to halt purchases or o/w made you feel guilty about things you bought?

Good question, it all depends on circumstances: if money is tight or not/is the purchase worthwhile or will it collect dust, etc. I'd definitely justify the detailing products by saying that its maintaining the condition of the car. Although it would be tough to justify the 1000 ive spent in 7 months on ag.

If all else fails I'd do what you guys do and bribe, lie and sneak my purchases into the house. haha see Im not that rightous after all.

I just did a big sin. I just went and clean the rain water off my car without QD or doing ONR. I used a new (clean) HD Guzzler.

I'm leaving for Europe in the morning for 3 weeks for work, so didn't have time to do the proper clean up, but I did hit the car with DP QD afterwards to get rid of water spotting, streaks. And I cleaned the windows with Surf City Garage Clearly Better Glass Cleaner. The cover gets put on in the morning and car parked for 3 weeks. So far this year I've only drove 2500 miles and this is my daily driver when I'm home...
