I usually use a good quality metal/chrome polish to shine up exhaust tips, but the AMG exhaust tips are pretty scratched up on my 01 ML55 AMG. Im pretty sure these are chrome tips, and i tried some 2000 grit sand paper on a small section to see if it would leave scratches and it looks like it scratched it up a bit so I didnt go any further. Is 2000 grit sandpaper save for chrome tips? If not what can I use to take out scratches from my tips? Thanks in advance guys.

I'm not sure what you could use to take out the scratches but if they're dirty you could try some M105 and a soaking wet scouring sponge. I've also used Optimum Metal Polish with great results, as well.

I always thought triple O steel wool was preferred for metal polishing over sand paper ?? I still prefer a wool bob as possible and light metal polishes.

I just did mine. Tried out the minipowerball and mothers chrome/metal polish.

Tips where solid black as running nocats. Happy here.

I've been pondering the newer tight exhausts like on the lexus and such of how to do the outsides. Was thinking of getting a dedicated shoe shine for those.

All purty!!!

I think exhaust tips are the one thing most overlook when detailing their car. But when they are done right they look awesome and it really improves the appearance of the vehicle.
