New Griots 6 Inch Polish- New and Improved!

I just got the "code SUMMER15" e-mail from AG... and when looking through the Ad, I noticed a section showing AG's offering of Griot Polisher packages.

I really like this one... and it may finally make me place an order.

AG's GRIOT Package Deal

As the Summer days go by, I realize that if I don't do something soon... I'll be shoveling Snow instead of taking the Swirl marks out my 2003 Sierra Denali.

For this deal, I noticed that if you live in the States, you can get your Shipping for free on orders over $95.00 There is also a reduction in shipping charges for Canadians too.

AG, if I place an order well over $500 and up to $800 range, could it even further reduce my shipping charges ?

I plan to go all out and order everything I need to start off RIGHT ! :buffing:

I've ordered the new Griot Buffer... can anyone tell me how long it is, so that I can buy a Bag for it ?

I'm looking at the DeWalt 18" Bag.

In Inches is fine, I can convert it to Metric.

It measures 12 1/2" long and 8" high with the backing plate on. The cord sticks out a little behind that. The box it comes in is 14 1/2 inches long and 8 1/2 inches high and about 6 1/2 wide. Hope that helps.

Also I did a little work with it this weekend with orange Griot's pad and some Zaino Z-PC. Never did get the pad to stop rotation but I didn't apply a lot of pressure either. I'm a total Noob so I'm going slow and easy and reading a lot but so far this is a very nice machine. I get my order of LC pads and Menzerna polishes tomorrow so this weekend it will get some more work and I will get a better feel of it.

As an aside, does it make you guys North of the Border nuts to now have the Metric System........when not so many years ago, you used English? I've been immersed in both in engineering, but flipping nationally down here would be crazy. Looks so odd to me when I drive across the Lewiston Bridge and seeing KPH posted. And in England........it's still MPG (but then again, a mix of Metric and English...talk about confusing).

BTW, why a bag and not a plastic hard-shell plastic tool box? Saw a few good ones.....A B&D at Walmart for ~$10 & another good one, Stack-On, I think, at Kmart for about the same. In fact, the B&D looked way too good to be just ~$10, but there it was.

See ya

XX-Mart is the last place I shop. I will pay people like Auto Geek $30.00 for a bag rather than XX-mart $8.00 for one similar. There is just something wrong about the way they operate.

Buckskincolt... thanks for getting me the measurements of the Griot Buffer ! I appreciate it, very much.

We've had the Metric System up here in Canada for a while now... and I'm close to 49 years old, so I know my way around in both Units of Measure. To work with either the Metric or Imperial System, it's easy for me.

I have just about every DeWalt Power-tool they've ever made, in my Shop... so to use a Yellow Soft-sided Bag for all my new Detailing stuff, it fits for me !

e

Happy to help, us noob's have to stick together!:xyxthumbs:

im very interested to see how these 2 stack up as well. i was thinking about getting the 7424, but the griots has more power.

Just a quick note. The NEW Griot's RO Will take the smaller backing plates for the PC & other random orbital buffers. I ordered the Lake Country-43-085DA Dual Action 3.5 Inch Flexible Backing Plate for the PC and tried it today, fit perfect and worked really well (coming from a noob) I have done a couple small projects and have been keeping an eye on rotation....with 6.5" pads It does not bog down very easy. About the only time rotation slows is when I (NOOB to the MAX) run the edge of a 6.5" pad against a uneven part of the panel. I'm very happy with this buffer so far!:D

Just thought people here might want to know for sure that the NEW Griot's buffer Will take other sized backing plates, I don't think the old model would. now you can run 5.5 " or 4" pads along with 6.5" :dblthumb2:

So it might be worth while now, to buy the 4" Pad kit that's offered on AG ?

I also bought the smaller Griot DA Buffer... so that I have options for those smaller places.

Newbie + Smaller Machine = not so many mistakes ???

I'm not so worried about mistakes because I use the "always use the least aggressive combination first" for a motto and so far it has worked. I really liked using the 4" pads for around the grill and posts. Next year I'll probably buy the 5" plate and 5" pads.

So far I really like this machine. One of the questions I have seen was, can it accept the other backing plates for smaller pads and want to let everyone know that for sure it will.

I think the 3" machine will have it's advantages, lighter and more compact for doing little work would be great for sure.

Hope you like your new stuff. What polishes and protection products did you go with?:buffing:

Later Y.

A little more feed back for people on the Griot's. I used it on my father in laws front cap on his 5th wheel yesterday. We were using 6.5" orange & white pads with Menzerna IP to get of the oxidation. The Griot's preformed flawlessly, lots of power, turned the pads at a great speed and never offered to stop spinning them. We ended up using 4 pads because the oxidation was so bad the pad would gum up (I don't have a pad washer yet) so on to a new one. Anyone looking at a Random orbital really should take a hard look at the Griot's, it's a very good tool.:dblthumb2::buffing:

Meg's 105 & 205, along with Wolfgangs Paint Sealant 3.0

That sounds like a great combination, the 105 was a little to aggressive for me just starting out. After trying the Menzerna IP PO91E I can't imagine something as aggressive as the 105, the menz IP really cuts and is almost 1/2 between the 105 & 205.

I was looking at the WGPS 3.0, and will be trying it in the future.:props:

I'll keep that in mind.

When the Snow blows around here, and your Truck is buried under a foot Snow... using a Snow Brush on your Vehicles Paint Job is probably the last thing that Mike would recommend.

So needless to say, I have tons of micro-scratches and swirls to get out.

If the 105 is too aggressive, I could always cut back it's cutting edge by using a finer Foam Pad, right ?

If it were me with those products I think I would start with the 205 on a white pad and see what that does. Mike would say start with the 205 on a white & He has forgotten more than I will ever know. I would then step (if needed) to 205 on orange, I will say that, just in my little use there is a big difference between the cut of a orange pad and a white pad FYI. The White is softer than the orange I don't know about finer?:dunno: I don't think you want to get into a position you are "cutting back" you want to be stepping up....go slow my friend.:dblthumb2:

With as aggressive as the 105 is (see AG chart Autogeek Swirl Removers & Compounds Comparison Chart ) I would be very careful 105 on a orange pad. Keep in mind I think this Griot's machine is under rated because of the old version and it has more capabilities than most think. I'll bet you that the 205 on orange is going to be the most aggressive you will need, maybe even 205 on white will be. Do a test spot like Mike shows in his video to get where you need to be. Start least aggressive and you will have a bottle of 105 on your shelf to look at and say why did I buy that? LOL Hope you get your stuff soon so you can join in the fun.:xyxthumbs:
