First attempt at engine detail

i attempted my first engine detail.......very daunting
so i kept it very simple
what i could reach i cleaned with ONR, a short handle brush and the ez detail brush
dried with old microfiber towels
and dressed with 303

could it have been better, hell yea, but im satisfied

Looking good. I had to do a double take, I just changed the oil in the wifes CRV. Looks alot alike.

Nice job. Next time use a stronger APC than ONR.

ONR seems to have done the trick. I think he used it to minimize the amount of liquid that could reach connectors and electronics. Plus, the mechanic action of the brush is enough to clean most of the 'dirt'.

Great, but a lot of engines have caked on dirt and oil that ONR can't remove. Still came out nice.

I have been using an APC diluted and mix up a couple gallons and use
a garden sprayer that I bought for this use only. When I start spraying the solution on the engine and it's not cutting the grime I simply add more APC till it works. I cover my alternator and other sensitive parts with plastic grocery bags and tape with duct tape. The electronics are my biggest concern. When done I spray the electronic
connections with WD-40. No problems so far. I also buff the painted
surface under the hood with a powerball and dress with wax or sealant.

Good work on that engine detail. I know how you felt about getting certain things wet. Your car manual will also tell you what to cover/protect to wash the engine. In fact most manufacturers do suggest cleaning the engine for better efficiency etc.

Looks like my engine lol. Since we both have the same car this is what I use with great results. I use P21S Total Auto Wash and agitate with a short handle brush. I cover the alternator with a plastic shopping bag as well as the MAF sensor on the intake. I rinse with a easy stream of water and dry with designated old cobra MF's. I dress/ protect with 303 on all rubber hoses, but lately have been using my gummi pfledge with equal results.

You guys are very cautious and smart about your engine detail. I cleaned up my Subaru engine yesterday and I didn't cover anything...just sprayed P21S TAW everywhere, agitated everything with a few brushes, and then rinsed with my pressure washer and dried with a few towels.

Not all manufacturers do (just looked in my manual) so it is best error on the side of caution. However if you call the customer service # and push them for the info they will give you an answer. The dealer is useless for this information
