Boar's Hair Brush

I can only speak on behalf of the Boar's Hair Wheel Brush sold here by AG, and that thing Rocks. The best thing about it, besides it's superb performance, is it rinses clean no matter how much gunk gets on the hairs. Definitely worth every penny, I actually purchased two as I accidentally left one out on my driveway and some one made off with it

:doh::cry::bat::bash:.

I give em :dblthumb2:.

Yep, the one with the telescopic handle seems to be Mike's new favorite toy hehe. Ive been seeing it in his writeups. Im thinking about one myself as it looks like a better option for me than a mitt.

I'm still scared of using that hair brush. I fear that it could/will scratch the paint on vehicles.

My $.02

And if it doesn't scratch the finish (which I'm guessing it couldn't possibly if Mike has made it his tool of choice) then wouldn't it certainly strip any coat of wax or sealant currently on the vehicle? I can't image a sealant or wax standing up to being rubbed-over by any bristles, no matter how soft.

If my guess above (about the brush stripping any existing protective coat) is correct then maybe the boar's hair brush is only to be used in cases where stripping the existing protection is desirable?

I've been doing as much research on these as I can and from what I can find (on the internet and talking to local paint guys) they do not and will not scratch unless contaminated. I think IMHO, that these would be just as safe as a mitt using a double bucket system.

I'm sure there will be a lot more people with more knowledge chime in here. I'm thinking Christmas for the father in law and Birthday for ME!;)

They do not strip our sealants/waxes trust me I have been lazy in the summer months and not wax in awhile, and I use that brush for every wash.

If Megan says there good they must be good.

One hair brush for me

I say they are!:p
Just do me a favor, had a customer that did call and complain that he scratched the car with one... I was puzzled, until I asked the question I never thought I would have to ask... did you put it in soapy water first? Then I realized we are all here to learn, some are starting at simple 101 washing and that is ok! I am just happy to have people eager to become better detailers, this way I wont see so many swirls on the road!

You have to use soap? :wow:

If I haven't said it lately let me say it now,
I LOVE YOU GUYS!

I have to say you all definitely put a smile on my face throughout the day!

And YES please use soap!:detailer:

OK so we've established that the boar's hair brush is safe and effective to use as a traditional washing tool but lets take it a step further: can it be used instead of a mf/mitt/sponge for an ONR?

I'd say yes..... BUT, you will have to accept the simple fact that you WILL use more ONR solution to wash a car with a brush, simply because the brush will not HOLD as much solution as a sponge or MF mitt/towel as it tends to release it's contents rather readily. ( Which is why it works so darn well as a wash media, it dislodges the dirt which then is rinsed away by the released washing fluid).

BUT, I also recall the maker of ONR indicating that ONR is meant to bind the dirt to the wash media and that might be an issue...... Considering brushes tend to release their payload easily, be it wash solution or wash solution + dirt, perhaps a brush *might* not work as well with ONR...... I'd give it a go if I had one of the brushes, but all I have are Boars hair shaving brushes and I'm not sacrificing one of those for a car wash experiment! :D

I have two of them...the medium size one and the big daddy. They have both been demoted to use on something other than my truck or cars.

I know I am using it correctly, and I know it leaves marks all over my truck (dodge paint). My fiance's avalon stand up to it a bit better but still leaves marks. But its also black vs white paint.

Only product ive bought from AG that i am disappointed in. Just giving my honest opinion. Believe me its not a dig against AG, Ive spent a lot of money here, and will spend much more. it just wont be on a BHB. Sorry Meghan.

What do yall do about the smell of it after using it, it stinks now! haha i love it besides the stink it leaves in my trunk
