The Mindset of a Professional Detailer

Mike please make a book!! I need a book that i will actully read and yours would be the one!

great article!! :applause::dblthumb2: it's good that this is one of the first things i read here when i signed up. thanks for sharing!

This is invaluable information. If this gets re-published please allow me to obtain a copy.

where do you find your book?
Sometimes a lot of my customers with daily drivers only want production work, as in Wash/Clay/ AIO and dress the tires. I do not work for anyone nor have I just started out but I try an offer all three types of detailing work you have listed above

Seems like its all about the customer and what they want

You guys think exactly alike!

Mike, excellent write up & I wish I could get a copy of your book. Please let me know if you ever do a 2nd edition. I like others here do have a PASSION for what I do & I always do extra for my customers, I guess business wise that's my "Achillies Heal". I have a really hard time to turn the car back over knowing I could have taken it a few steps further, but like it has already been stated that's what the customer has permitted me to do. Due to my automobile Passion ,it is my Therapy!!! I think we should have a Passion / Therapy group / session, I know I would be a Lifetime Member. I would love to hear and welcome any self help ideas to help me with my over achieving illness. I guess it comes down to Time Mgmt. + Money vs. Passion.Feed back please
exactly I hate when that happens and its all the time. You want to help and do it right but its like I'm not getting paid for all this and I'll be doing every car for almost free then

Hey Mike, I don't know how many times I've read this article & it really helps me to keep things in perspective. Thanks-

A brand new detail shop opened up in my community the other day. This fixed location has had 3 previous "detailers" in that building.

Curiosity got the best of me, so I parked my Mustang in the parking lot of the strip mall across the way and walked over to take a look. What did I see?

Dirty terry towels, wool pads on old rotaries and two "kids" who don't have a clue as to what they are doing and "installing custom hologramming" a black BMW 3 series. Another employee was washing cars with a stiff brush.:bash::eek:

Oh man, I hope that black Beemer owner doesn't discover these forums, buy a swirl finder light, shine it on his ride and require hospitalization for high blood pressure!:cruisin::cry::doh:

Before or after, it makes no difference. Those JB paints are so terrible, they look very bad, right out of the showroom. I always suggest to look at other colors. It is not worth it.
