I am looking for suggestions about a good quality portable heater that I can use in my garage this winter.

I am simply looking for something that can warm my garage a bit from time to time when I clean (ONR) my truck.

I would like something electric that is portable and uses a standard plug type outlet.

I have also seen some of the emergency use LP heaters that are indoor approved so if anyone has any experience or information in regards to those type heaters I would appreciate your thoughts as well.

My garage is 2 ½ stalls and is insulated.

Thanks for the help.

Wow wish i could help you on this one but i live in South Florida. If you need some A.C. that i can help with .When i worked in NY we use to use a Space heater it uses Kerosene but you need a well vented area. Here is a link Mi-T-M

I bought an electric wall mount/ stand up heater from lowes. It runs on a 240v outlet though. It has a thermostat with auto shut off that goes from 35F-90F.

Getting my Mr. Heater Big Buddy Propane Heater ready to go this week. My response was on page two from the CharlesW link. Love this heater for the garage.

I use to have a large propane heater in the garage when I lived in Michigan. It worked great and was cheaper to run than electric. It easily heated up the garage fast so you could do some detailing on a cold winter's day.

I have an OLD kerosene torpedo style heater that is loud and smelly but works wonders and really takes the chill out of the air when it is below zero out side. I do have the leave the garage door cracked, maybe this winter I will just get a canary.

Unfortunately we never come close down here to needing a heater in the garage, heck I don't even need one in the house!

Lucky!!

It's supposed to go down into the upper 30's here tonight for the first time this year already. :(

Thanks for all of the information. I have some researching to do now on heaters.

i'm going to have to agree with those who chose a propane style torpedo heater, or natural gas type heat if you can pipe ng to your garage. i'm in northern illinois and the winters here can be miserable. i personally use a 30k btu propane reddy heater for my 2.5 car insulated garage. it was 100 bucks from the depot and heats the garage from 20 to 60ish in less than 30 minutes. a 20lb propane cylinder also lasts a very long time. i don't believe i have ever used one completly over a winter. good luck and stay warm!

Good time for a post like this. I know here in western Wash it is getting into the low 40’s at night, and soon it will be in the 40’s during the day and wet outside all the time. I could use some heat in my 2-car garage too.:props:

I have a "LB WHITE" 70K btu portable heater fan driven motor with electric thermostat (110v / 12.5amps.) and 100 gallon propane tank. I have set this to 65 on the dial and the propane will last approx. for 2 weeks depending on how high you set the thermostat. I only have to use it sparringly. I have high ceilings so I don't worry about breathing too much propane being brought in thru the fan. Set the propane tank outside and the heater inside using a 10ft. section of flexhose, just in case your due for an annual fire inspection. Also great for drying out wet floor mats & quick too!!!:xyxthumbs:

Hi,

I live in the land of cheap-cheap electricity due to a municipal power commission and Niagara Falls Hydro. What a joy to have small utility bills.

Am interested in your comments about installing an electric garage heater. Do you happen to have the particular spec/link from Lowes for the one you used? And, if you had it installed by somebody else, what was the total installed price (eqt. & labor), if you wouldn't mind telling me. Also, any practical experience or recommendations you'd make after having it a while?

Even with an open ceiling, I'd love to be able to raise the temp. out there to comfortable levels when I want to........certainly not a daily thing, but maybe once a week for a couple of hours. Can't see using propane or kerosene combustion systems in a closed space.

Anyay, thx. in advance.

See ya.
