How do you use steel wool?

thanks for information guys I am going to give it a try on a set of chrome wheels that are really caked with tar and oxidation. I will try and upload some pictures when I have a minute.

Just make sure that the wheels are definately chrome, and not polished aluminum with a clear coat.
ya i have heard that the german dealerships used 0000 to clean glass. i have used it with a nice foaming glass cleaner and scrubbed lightly to take off stubborn window chalk like the whole "go team go" bit that soccer moms have on their cars.
How does it work on glass? Do you use really light pressure when cleaning? I would be kinda worried about it scuffing the glass, but I guess not with the really fine grade stuff...

I use it on windshields ALL the time with medium grade. It takes off the white lettering from auctions and some bug residue that was too hard to get off. You can use agressive pressure if you want.... never caused me any problems before. I always use it dry then clean the windows with cleaner. Just DO NOT use it on tinted glass if you are to do the interior windows....

try the Griots Chrome Wheel Cleaner ... more than several have been extremely impressed with its power. Use a small sponge for agitation.
