Need help...getting ready for new black car

Like Josh said even though your car is new, it could still have swirls that 85rd may not be able to remove. In the future you may want to pick up a medium polish such as SIP or M205, both great choices. I am a Souveran fanatic "Big Time", but I also have used MaxWax and can absolutely say w/o hesitation it is ABSOLUTELEY Awesome on black as a "pretty" wax as well. Like Killrwheels says "It is truly a hidden gem"!! it looks great!!

Hey trichard

What is your assessment of the Maxwax vs the Souveran. One is $30 and a "hidden gem". The other one is $95 and highly regarded. dunno what to do at thos point: is the $95 worth it? Is the MaxWax so close to the souveran that $30 would be better spent with that?

I do realize the car could have swirls. With that said:
- the car is a BMW European Delivery Program. When I saw it in Munich, it did not have swirls (I closely inspected that) and it is not supposed to get washed until it reaches the dealership. And I asked the dealership to NOT wash it (in fact, I would sleep better if they weren't even looking at it :)). I am hoping this will allow me to get it swirl free.
- If the car has swirls, I have the 1Z High Gloss polish which is supposed to be like the Menz 106, and the intensiv paste which can take most stuff out

Reg. the Eagle One tire gloss: I know this is not the best product, I am just trying to get rid of some stuff before I buy some more. I have this and the Michelin tire dressing, and did not want to buy a third bottle (yeah, wifie does not want to see a second cabinet of detailing products...I can understand that). I had my eye on the DP tire dressing: what do you guys think about it

Thanks for all the advice. Like I said in another thread, this forum is really a learning center for me.

That's good that you have that extra polish as you may have to use it. A good way to get rid of some stuff that you really don't want would be to trade or just toss. That way when your wife sees another order, you can say, "I don't have the other stuff anymore." :D

I've never used either, but spend $19.99 and get Natty's Blue. I'm a little biased. :D

I will say Souveran has received some great reviews however. :) There are just so many choices...that's half the fun!

A buddy of mine (AsphaltRocket) taught me that "your prep work is where all of the magic happens". That is to say, if you do all of your necessary prior steps correctly and lovingly (i.e. washing, drying, claying, polishing, IPA wipedowns, etc.) then wax is just icing on the cake. It has been said by many w/ much more know how than I that "prep work is 90+% ". That being said waxes are all "Beauty in the eye of the beholder". It comes down to a personal choice and everyone has an opinion. I currently have two containers of each; MaxWax and souveran, and I must admit that my garage queen gets souveran only. But I can assure you w/ correct polishing of the paint you or I would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two. These are both great "beauty" waxes, and both look awesome on black. I fortunately can afford to purchase and use Souveran, but if I couldn't afford it I would use MaxWax as my go to "beauty" wax... I know this was kind of a waltz around answer but it is the best I could do... I hope it helps...

When you pick up a new car never ever let the Dealer prep the paint PERIOD !
I watched a flawless 2 bucket wash take place the other day and was impressed until the attendant picked up a chamois of the ground stained with oil and started wiping down the car without care! I was horrified and almost said somthing but then realized the worse job they do at the dealer the more business I will have in the future !

Trading a half bottle of Eagle one tire shine might be tough....but an accidental spill can always happen  I have been very clumsy lately

I agree. So far I have been detailing w/o paint correction and already that has taught me this.
Reg. the wax, since several members seem to thing Maxwax looks great on dark colors and I am a huge fan of DP, I will use the Maxwax as a starting point.

Dana is a great guy! He will help you with anything, and it's true...the true beauty of your car comes out with your polishing that you do.

I too love many DP products; most of them are truly "Hidden Gems". I think you will be VERY happy with the MaxWax (I know I am), and yes it looks awesome on black, plus I think it smells good (but DON'T lick it)!

The DP foam solution rocks!!

Good to hear! I am going to purchase a foam gun and a gallon of the DP extreme foam to complement my CRspotless (trying to minimize as much contact w/ the paint as possible). Can't wait till my PONY wakes up from her winters nap this spring!!!

Oh I bet you are excited. I'd like to get a foam cannon soon.

Which model BMW did you order Tex?

It is a 535i in Carbon Black with the Cream Beige + Black interior (cream beige leather and black everything else).

Excellent choice of color. You will love the twin turbo power - enjoy!:dblthumb2:

Sure will :xyxthumbs:.
The funny thing is: I have been saying for a long time that I would never have a black car because "it is a full time job", but could not resist that Carbon black. To make matters worse, the leather is cream in color (from what I read, difficult to keep clean) AND, since the car has the M-performance package, it comes with rims that are going to be a pain to clean. My week-ends are booked for the next 7 or 8 years

My friend, that is not a bad problem to have haha. :xyxthumbs:

Aaaaah...the car finally arrived. I picked it up Friday night from the dealership, unwashed / untouched per my instructions (they did a very good job of NOT touching it :)).
So, now, I had a predominantly dusty black car and sub-freezing temps all week-end long. That is where I decided to do a quick wash with DP RWG. I had just received it and had never used that product before. I will put it like that "DP does it again". This product is great. About 4 gallons of warm water, 2.5oz of RWG, a wash mitt, a Guzzler drying towel and my car was clean and shiny with no induced swirls. I used the left over in the bucket to do the wheels and it worked great too.

I however discovered bird poo etching on the CC of the hood and that concerned me. I was hoping it had not had time to marr the CC too deep. I took my reliable KAIO and made a quick pass on the hood: it did improve the etching but could not get rid of it entirely. I then "soaked" the spots in KAIO and let it dwell for 10min, then agitated and wiped: spots GONE! Hurray!

Now, I just need to wait a little for the temps to allow me a jewelling session and 2 coats of sealant.
At any rate, I am a happy camper.
