With winter on the way, what steps do the folks here recommend that I do to protect my paint as much as possible? I have 02 vette, and I have not yet decided to park it for the winter. I really don't want to drive anything else, but I want to save my baby as much as possible also.

The temps are going down and rains are coming. I don't see myself spending much more time hand washing my car (cold). I have a lot of Megs stuff NXT, Swril X, and other stuff too. I don't got no buffer, so everything would be done by hand. Hopefully in the spring I'll ask Dana to detail my car. Long story but I was lined up for him to do it in July.

So what would you folks recommend?

Thanks

how cold it cold? What part of the country do you live in?

I live in Virginia. COLD is relative, but for me too cold to wash by hand. After below 50 F, I don't want to be washing the car outside. I'm sure I'll end up doing it a few times anyway, but I can see me not doing it for a while. Sooner or later, I figure 8 weeks max, I'll be cutting off the outside water hose and draining the pipe. Really can't see me carrying buckets outside. My neighbors (and wife, kids) already think I'm crazy for washing the car 2-3 times a week.

The car is black and it does drive me crazy to watch it get dirty. It is also my DD for now. I may end up buying a beater but I already talked about that. Anyway, any good suggestions? I'm open! Thanks

Optimum No-Rinse or DP Rinseless Wash will provide comfortable winter washes in the garage during the cod winter months. Optimum No-Rinse is my savior during the freezing winter months here in NJ.

If you have a lot of Meguiar's products, I suggest laying down a coat or two of NXT 2.0 and then maintaining that with Ultimate Quik Detailer weekly or bi-weekly. And then re-apply the NXT 2.0 every other month or so until the winter is over. Obviously, you would do ONR or DP Rinseless washes to keep your car clean.

I agree with Emile about the ONR. I love this stuff. It really is so much easier to wash my car without draging around the hose. Use warm water in the bucket (or use 2 buckets), and just wash with whatever wash media you like, and then wipe off. It couldn't be easier. Like Emile, I too live in NJ and the winters here get real bad, so I would also apply a few coats of Collinite (845IW, 915 or 476S).

Good luck!

I did mine and my wifes car last weekend. On my car a 2006 Ford Escape I did a 151 rub down by hand , and followed with 476. On my wifes 04 Kia Sedona I clayed, 501, and then 111 with 601.Both cars are rolling mirrors.

I would start by washing and claying the car. Since Dana will be detailing you car in the spring. I would move on to Sealing the paint. I would use WGPS and apply 2 coats. They apply a wax on top of it.

I guess it is all relative. I lived in "North" Jersey (Bergen County) for 6 years and loved the "mild" winters. Not quite "Brooklyn mild" but close.

I suppose of the folks in Buffalo or Rochester chime in, they'd tell you that they would die for the "real bad" NJ winters! LOL

As a resident of the Finger Lakes area near Rochester; yes I would love it if we had a "NJ bad" winter. Unfortunately I don't have a snowmobile this year to get to work when it's "Rochester bad"...

Yea, real "bad" NJ winters.........LOL. That's an oxymoron!

On the other hand, we could be lucky...........once had NO snow until well into january. That's probably not happening again real soon, though.

See ya.
