I tried to find the answer to this but can't seem to locate anything so here goes:

How loud are some of these buffers? For example I have a flex on the way and I live in a very quiet area. When I work on my computers and cut into the case. My neighbors all know it.

If I'm going to be in my carport for several hours working with a DA (Griots, PC, Flex) am I going to upset some of my more senior neighbors who complain about noise?

Also FWIW the wife will not let me work in the garage....So I'm forced to work under the car port.:pc7424:

I'm thinking maybe the question is which is the quietest of the buffers?

The Griot is the quietest, but still loud on speed 6. The Flex is the loudest.

Great thanks for this! Just the kind of answer I'm looking for!!

No Not yet.. I'll get one near the end of next year Or early '11 ! I just invested in the Audi A8L......

I need ear plugs with my Flex rotary.

:iagree:I always use ear plugs when using the vacume, buffer, extractor, air blower, lawn mower, most equipment. Over a period of time the decibals can and will damage your hearing. You would be surprised at the levels of some of the machines we use eveyday that have the ability to cause permenate hearing lost. Be safe not sorry. Wear hearing protection! I am not acting as if I thought of this either. It started on my job,and I let it carry over into my business. It's just good practice to me!

I know buffers can be noisy if you are using them but if you are 10 ft away it shouldn't be a problem. I dont think they are that loud. Vacuums are the worst for noise. I have a hoover GUV in my trailer for that reason since it is the quietest one I have seen. I dont want to upset the neighbors using a 5 gallon "shop vac".

To answer your question I personally think my makita rotary is much quieter than my PC

Very good rule of thumb!

Thank you! Good point about the vac!

I know this thread is older than most of your children, but I'm about to move into a duplex that has an attached single car garage where i plan on doing my detailing. The neighborhood is a quiet golf course community and yesterday i noticed my neighbors car had a rear facing baby seat in it. The way the building is set up, the inside corner of my garage will be connected to the corner of the neighbors babies room. I am unsure of the insulation in this building, but will working in my garage (using a HF DA) be to loud with a baby's room on the other side of the wall? I'm assuming yes, but would like to know if any of you have had good, or bad experiences with neighbors.
This will be for my cars only. Not running a business or anything like that. So it wont be often.

Rupes reasonably quiet (PC is louder) compared to Flex especially when you look at how efficient it is.

My griots is pretty loud on setting 6 but I use Bluetooth headphones to kinda block out the noise and listen to whatever I'd like but I have woken up the neighbors a couple mornings in the summer when I started at 5:30 they weren't to pleased but hey I had to get my work done

Agree. You shouldn't be polishing outside unless you have to. There is airborne crap that will land on your paint. You may not see it unless the car is black.

You have a garage and aren't "allowed" to work in it??? OMG.

I don't think you guys realize how old this thread is. I just didn't want to start a new thread over the same topic. This guy probably lives in a different house now lol

I have the Griot's buffer, my wife can hear it from inside the house, it's not as loud as my PC though.
I used the Flex once and it was loud but not any louder than most machines.
