The Foam Gun is absolutely a must have detailing tool. It is great on all vehicles from really dirty to not that bad. It is great on really soiled cars because it will break down the dirt and help prevent self induced swirls and RIDS.

I like to add 1-2oz of DP Extreme Foam Formula Auto Shampoothen fill the rest of the bottle with water. I like to use the Foam Gun on the medium foam to full foam setting. I just like to really make sure the foam sticks on the car to get all the dirt loose. A full bottle is enough for me to wash 2 trucks/suvs on full foam setting.

Pros: Great to get dirt loose. It really speeds up the washing process.

Cons: The foam does not sit on the car very long no matter what setting you use due to the amount of water used. If you want alot of foam that sits on the car get the Foam Cannon. But for the average detailer the Foam Gun will do just fine.

Great pics. I am debating getting one of these. How will it perform with normal car wash cleaner? Do you have to use special foam refills?

I wish I could wear shorts and sandals right now.:(

How do you fill it? Ive never really known the proper way but I just do whatever works. But my way probably isnt the most efficient. I pour the soap in the bottle then use the hose to fill it up. The soap foams up so much that I barely have enough water in there. Should I put the soap in there and fill with tap water (Memphis has very clean water) so it would foam up at all?

I bought a foam gun (non-Autogeek but same manufacturer) way back when they first hit the scene. I really wasn't happy with it and returned it. Later I picked up a foam cannon and I'm extremely pleased with it. There's just no comparison.

I have been interested in getting on these soon but am curious about how it really works. There is no way that the foam/cleaner is strong enough to remove anything on the paint. So what process is used. Spray on to help lift dirt and remove alot of the heavier substances. Then go back with a good Two Bucket Wash to remove the last little bit? Or does this thing really remove EVERYTHING off the paint somehow? Wanting to get one to with my pressure washer.

Fill up the canister with water first, then add the soap. No foam in canister. Swish and swirl a couple times then attach to hose.

goes to show you everyone has their preference. i rarely use the foam cannon and use my foam gun more these days...

Thanks for the review

I do the same but I don't fill it up all the way.

I thought I would have to buy the foam stuff but my "normal" Ultima wash works great. Foams almost as good.

I love it. I would rinse the car to knock off the big stuff then use the foam gun with pb ss&s. Let it sit for couple of min. then rinse off. Then do your standard 2 bucket wash.

Just my .02:buffing:

I can see why some people would feel that way. It's much easier to throw a foam gun on the end of a hose instead of lugging out and setting up a pressure washer. If it weren't for the fact that I use my pressure washer every time I wash my car I probably wouldn't use the foam cannon as much. However, I have carpeted rear wheel wells and the only way to get them clean is pressure washing them. As long as I have the machine out, I foam the car.

I will say though the foam from the foam cannon is far thicker and sticks longer to the car. My wash technique now basically involves rinsing, foaming half the car, washing using a rinse bucket only, rinsing and then repeating on the other side.

Fill with water first so it does not get all foamy on you

You can you any car wash soap in the Foam Gun. Some are more foamy then others

it's understandable why you use the foam cannon, and everyone has their preference (you still in most cases, will follow up washing even after it's been foamed with "thicker" foam). i like the foam gun because i pre-soak AND use it while i wash. spraying each pass with wash media right behind it and rinsing by disconnecting and using the pistol grip works well for *me* (i still use a rinse bucket). can't say its any faster than a traditonal wash, but it helps with more lubrication as i touch the paint with each pass. also, i don't have to go back in forth to the pressure washer to rinse and repeat...
