Scored a few high end cars, need you help!

Matte finish is little to no clear in the paint. You can not detail a matte finish car other than washing it. They scratch real easy, and if you hit it with a buffer it will heat up fast and change the apperance of the finish real fast.

Also what the ZR-1 means by not hitting the hood is that if I remember right theres openings that sit near to the top of the alternator, coils, fuze box, intake etc. Get water into that motor and cause hydrolock = a expensive five digit repair.

But like everyone is saying, without insurance you should not even be considereing detailing these cars. Unless you know the owners REAL WELL, get them to sign a liability waiver, and go at it, but be real safe and slow.

I have worked on a Lamborghini LP640, Aston Martin DBS and Ferrai 360 before. So an exotic is nothing new. If you refer to my previous questions, they're actually not the normal "everyday" detailing questions. More focused on exotic, especially that Matte White finish.

Well if they are nothing new and obviously think you are all that by this response then you do not need any help. By asking these questions on here about the listed cars in your orignal post than you are over your head like most have said on here.

I really think Z-oh-6 hit the nail on the head about ego.:props:

Good luck on working on these cars.

Ok guys you bashed him enough, its his job and his money so let him do what he wants. He is a big boy. Plus if you think about it what is a forum for??? its to ask questions and get answers not to be bashed or verbally flogged. Constructrive critisim is good, no its great, its what you need, but bashing is not. If you think about it if anyone asked a question on here couldnt they be considered "not experienced enough" to touch a car? A forum is for getting help and I have seen very few posts answering his questions or trying to help. Regardless of what you think of the poster and his "ego" shouldnt you try to help him. Once something is said once there is no need to beat a dead horse.

PLEASE DONT anyone take it the wrong way, I love the forum and I love the info I have recieved but this guy deserves the same. He knows the risks faced and he probably has accepted them so let him do what he does and if you can help then do.

All I will say on his questions is if you feel comfortable enough to work on them then who am I to say you are not capable... afterall I have never met you or seen your work or seen you in action. Let me say, Best of luck to you!!!
Jon

Speaking of which, were are some pics of this Z06 you keep talking about?:dblthumb2:
Don't want to hi-jack the thread, but here's a quick one. This was before I detailed it. Lost my digital camera so I haven't taken any since.

Hey man it's silver, do you even need to detail silver? (lol) :joking:Sweet ride buddy.:dblthumb2:

At some point, I think that every single one of us has asked questions about detailing that are not dissimilar to the OP's. At the very least, his questions could have easily been answered while leaving the judgement call to fall on the OP as to whether or not he will follow through with the detail due to liability concerns.

Wow, you certainly hang with the right crowd. These are without a doubt some of the finest and most expensive rides on the planet. The only one I see missing from the list is the Bugatti Veyron!

I don't want to be overly negative but it sounds like you're early in your detailing carrier and are still gaining the valuable experiance required to properly detail ordinary cars. Some of the questions you ask are fundamental and are gained through time and hands on experiance.

The cars that you mention are far from the ordinary cars that most drive and represent close to $2 million dollars, which is a bit scary in itself. If you at the very least had enough insurance to cover any possible damage that could be incurred to just one then I'd say you're at least starting off on the right foot.

I bookmarked the video below that I found interesting. It's an advertisement to a detailing shop but will give you a little insight into detailing a high-end vehicle.

You asked for opinions and mine is to get allot more experiance under your belt before starting at the top.

In the end it's your choice and all I can say is Good Luck.

Sorry Jon, but the way he asked his questions makes it seem like he is over his head and shouldn't touch those cars with a 10 foot pole. (As many have mentioned). WE are all looking out for him and his best interest. And if he can't handle a little "constructive criticism" then don't expect others to chime in for help.

P.S. Where are the pictures of the cars mentioned? ;)

Well said. :props:

The only thing Im saying is that it seems like everyone was bashing him and not giving constructive critisim... I believe there is a line between being tactful and nice about it and just being a condescending jerk and it looked to me like more being condescending than helpful. I know its hard and people can take a written word the wrong way but this guy deserves a little grace from everyone, 07zoh6 didnt you call everyone on a thread "brain dead"? Obviously you didnt mean for it to come off condescending or come off as a jerk but the written word did. Im just saying be helpful but be nice, if you really want to help him be nice about it because if you are a prick he will automatically dismiss what you say... I knnow I would.

Afterall, you can never achieve greatness if you never take risks.

i guess my first question to everyone would be.. When do you detail an exotic? You gotta learn somewhere sometime. Maybe not on 5 cars, mayb e take your time, REALLY take your time, one one of them and ask questions and post pics as you go. People are here to help.

While I think we may be coming off as a little harsh, no detailer should be working on cars of that caliber without insurance. The $2000 damage that was done on the Lambo last year by you know who is a prime example for why you need insurance...even though it never should have happened in the first place.

The questions listed by the OP do come off as question that would only be asked by a less experienced detailer and the only one that doesn't raise a flag for me is the 1st question about the matte paint. That and the thread title alone raises a big flag.

I think the reason behind a lot of the above posts is that it looks bad for the whole detailing community when an inexperienced detailer gets in over there head and messes up a high dollar car.
