Need some advice on water spots on windows.

I tried to search on here for info to get water spots on windows off but cant seem to answer what I need. I have cleaned and waxed till im blue in the face and I cant get the water spots off of them. Its only on my back window on a 08 dodge ram mega cab. Thanks for all the help.

Use a machine and a heavy polish or compound to remove the water spots. I use M105 on either an orange or yellow 6.5" LC CCS pad.

Here are the results I achieve with this combo:

Try Meguiar's #4 Heavy-Cut Cleaner with a terry cloth applicator (terry cloth will give you extra bite versus a foam pad). It has special abrasives that will help you remove the water spots. M04 is actually designed for use with a rotary on heavily oxidized surfaces, but its abrasives suit it well for heavy duty glass cleaning. I have used it a couple of times with great success. :xyxthumbs: Autogeek also has DP High Performance Glass Restorer, and probably other similar products as well, but I haven't used them so I can't comment on them. All I know is that M04 has worked for me.
 
I had tried many other solutions as well on hard water spots / etchings on glass and the only thing that worked was Ultimate Compound (becasue it's the most abrasive I have) with my PC XP on about 5 - 6 speed setting. I used an orange pad but will try the terry next time. Wish I had thought of that.

Just to clarify, I used M04 by hand with a terry cloth applicator pad.
 
The Diamondite Glass Cleaning System worked very well for me.
 
I've had great results with Glass Science Glass Scrub used with a drill and the foam pad from 3M Headlight kit. It say not to use the product dry, but it if you use too much water it will lather up like soap so you just have to find a balance.

Adam, have you inspected the glass in all lighting conditions and angles to be sure that 105 did not leave any micro scratches? Been a little hesitant to use a non-diminishing compound on glass. Thanks.
 
I use vinegar to remove hard water spots from glass. Works best to use newspaper with the vinegar (the ink acts as a mild abrasive).

And that was a very impressive how-to article with great pictures.

The thing that helps to remove water spots and other types of gunk and film build off glass is to use something with a CHUNKY diminishing abrasive.

Feel some M04 between your fingers and then feel any of the SMAT products or any other diminishing abrasive product and you'll see why M04 works pretty well at polishing glass.


Key word... CHUNKY

Yes, I've had windows under halogens, metal halide, direct sunlight and flourescents and there is no marring at all. The microabrasives in M105 aren't hard enough to scratch glass. Glass is crystal clear after we've used 105 or 205 on it to remove waterspots.

Tried this since it was simple and cheap ha and it didn't even touch the little water spots.
 
Go to your nearest windshield store and ask for SPARKLE cat. no. SP101.That should remove them its 8 or 9 bucks. Hope this helps.

Yea people have been telling me about this for years, I've never had any luck on actual hard water spots. Polishing with paint polish/compounds or using harsh acids are about the only thing that you are going to remove water spots off of windows. :xyxthumbs:
