I've had the new 2011 Kia Optima for about two months? Bought it with only 15miles on the ODO and I love it in the looks department. However if I didn't like the looks so much I could have gotten the 2011 Sonata for so much cheaper with more equipment

Going to get the front fog lights with the KDM LED positioning light, after 5k miles going to get new rims and a carbon fiber rear lip, going to rebadge the car as K5.

I agree that Hyundai is closing fast on it's competitors with stylish and inexpensive models that appeal to just about everyone. Another line that I'm impressed with is Volkswagen.

Funny you should mention Kia and VW in the same post. This great looking Optima above was designed by a former director of design at Audi (VW). That's Kia/Hyundai giving the customer exactly what they want and it's hard to argue against the results! On the other hand, the new Jetta is far inferior to the last/current generation from VW in terms of build quality and mechanical design. Although it is significantly cheaper to purchase, I think they are selling-out the brand in hopes of offering a cost-competitive model without a Korean name on it (which is not a great strategy for the future IMO). Given the struggle that VW has made to improve quality over the past couple decades, I see this as an unfortunate move even if it does not impact reliability.

Didn't know that part. I know the new Jetta is pretty farking ugly... I also know the Jetta was specially made for the US market since its a Golf with a trunk, but since we the American's prefer trunks vs hatches is the main reason its still made today.

Yeah, I had heard that. So there will be a different Jetta for Europe then? The 2011 jetta gets drum brakes, inferior factory hancook tires, loses independent rear suspension, loses a nice upscale tight-fit/finish and good-feeling solid interior. And like you said, it is terribly bland and boring to look at. Consumer reports said the engine is coarse as well, and sound-deadening is less effective.

Nope. Europe might get a few different facial styling/options and packages but its the same Jetta we get. Top gear mag gave it like a 6/10 and EVO didn't like it that much.

I currently work at a Hyundai dealership & i tell you the EQUUS is an awesome car. Rear seats recline, cooler under your arm rest, suspension goes up and down at a touch of a button! 60k for this thing!

For those of you that might be worrying about reliability. I have 2 Hyundais in my yard now. The wifes 05 Elantra and my 08 Tiburon. Neither has given us the slightest worry. In fact, neither has been back to the dealership since we drove 'em off the lot. I can't say that about any other cars we've owned.

2010 3.8 Gen coupe w/6 speed auto.... car rocks, fun to drive, handles well, no problems with 13k on the clock... I drive almost 100% with TCS OFF however... (TCS stays on only in the rain) Still waiting for a tune/sc/tt for the 3.8!!! :dblthumb2:

My wife just bought a 2011 Hyundai Sonata and loves it! She was looking for fuel economy but this car really surprised us with the styling, the roominess inside, the responsive power of the 4 cylinder engine and it's overall quality.

I've owned two Honda Accords and always marveled at their quality. This new Hyundai is every bit on par with the Honda Accords.

Hyundai has come a long way over the years and by offering more value and quality for the dollar, they have become a force to be taken seriously by their competitors.
